Samay Raina on FIR against Apoorva for her bold reply on India’s Got Latent

Samay Raina on FIR against Apoorva Mukhija for her bold reply to a contestant on India's Got Latent': 'Price of women standing up for themselves'

Comedian Samay Raina has finally broken silence on the India’s Got Latent controversy. He also highlighted how Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, faced severe backlash. He revealed that Apoorva was hit with three FIRs and even received rape threats simply for responding to a man’s remark in his own language and standing her ground. Despite the controversy, Samay expressed admiration for her courage and composure. In his latest stand-up special Samay Raina Still Alive, he revisited the moment that sparked the uproar. A rapper had made an inappropriate comment directed at Apoorva, asking, “V**ina main sensation khatam ho gayi hai kya?” While Samay initially assumed the remark would be edited out, Apoorva fired back instantly with, “Kabhi va**na dekhi hai maa se nikalne ke baad, [expletive]?”

Reflecting on her response, Samay admitted he was both impressed and a little envious. “Kya punchline maari usne. What a comeback to have in that moment. Chaar 4 comedian fail kar diya usne. I was very jealous. But I was so proud of her also because what a comeback to have in that moment.”He went on to explain that the exchange carried a deeper significance beyond just a witty retort. “Kuch cheeze hoti hain na yaar, voh life main layers main hoti hai. Surface-level chodo na yaar, Apoorva, rapper, that was not the moment. The moment was deeper, bigger than that. It was not Apoorva giving a comeback to a rapper from Gwalior. It was a woman standing up for herself and winning against a man.”See More: Samay Raina reveals Ranveer Allahbadia asked that ‘parent’ question 8 times on his show India’s Got Latent: ‘Yeh toh bohot gandi baatein kari’Emphasising the broader societal context, Samay added, “Bhai, iss patriarchal setup main, jahan koi expect nahi karta aurto ka kuch bolna, uss ladki ne ussi ki bhasha main… She won. He lost. It was a powerful moment. Mereko goosebumps aa gaye… Maine voh party popper liya, Apoorva ke sar (head) pe phoda… 3 FIR. That is the price of women standing up for themselves,” Samay Raina said. When the controversy initially unfolded, reactions were divided. While some criticised Apoorva online, many others rallied behind her, arguing that she had merely responded in kind. Several voices also condemned the extreme backlash, noting that targeting her and her family with rape and death threats was unjustifiable and needed to be strongly called out.
