Samantha was the first choice for Thamma

Samantha Ruth Prabhu was the first choice for Thamma; it was earlier titled Vampires of Vijay Nagar

Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe expands with “Thamma,” a vampire film starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Samantha Ruth Prabhu initially joined but exited due to health issues, leading to Rashmika’s casting. Notably, Ayushmann and Aparshakti Khurrana will share the screen for the first time in this Diwali release, adding to the popular franchise.

This Diwali producer Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik along with Aditya Sarpotdar are going to make a new addition to the horror comedy universe; Vampires. The vampire led film Thamma features Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The universe has already featured titles like Stree, Stree 2, Munjya and Bhediya. Now not many are aware that the film has been in talks for a very long time with Ayushmann being on board since the start. At the initial point it was not Rashmika Mandanna but Samantha Ruth Prabhu who was going to be part of the film but around 2022- the actress got diagnosed with autoimmune condition Myositis which led to her taking the decision to take a break from films and concentrate only on her health. She even returned the signing amount to her producers who had signed her films- she had a wide range of films lined up. The actress in the interim has only done Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, she tried her best to step down from the film and even suggested few names to her makers to replace her but they agreed to wait it out for her and ultimately made the show with her. Now sources share Samantha’s exit from Thamma which was earlier titled as Vampires of Vijay Nagar , makers who were already working with Rashmika for Vicky Kaushal and Laxman Utekar’s Chhaava to be the right choice. And around the release of Munjya she was approached and she came on board for the film. Rashmika is currently working on Cocktail 2 , her third film with the same production house after Chhaava and Thamma. It is directed by Homi Adajania and features Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. Thamma also will be the first film which will see Khurrana brothers- Ayushamann and Apasrshakti share screen space. Aparshakti has been part of the horror comedy universe with Stree and Stree 2.
