In a delightful twist of fate, Grammy-winning sensation Sam Smith, 33, is set to tie the knot with renowned fashion designer Christian Cowan, 32, after a love-filled three years. Their romance ignited in late 2022, but it was their stunning appearance at the 2026 Met Gala that truly turned heads, especially with Cowan flaunting a striking yellow diamond engagement ring.

Sam Smith and Christian Cowan are reportedly engaged after more than three years together. The Grammy-winning singer, 33, and the British fashion designer, 32, attended the 2026 Met Gala together on Monday, where Cowan wore a large square yellow diamond ring on his ring finger. The couple, who first sparked dating rumors in December 2022, have often appeared together at fashion events and made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala.

Page Six reported that Smith and Cowan were overheard discussing their engagement at the Mark Hotel before they walked the Met Gala red carpet. A hotel lobby insider told the outlet, “From what I understand, it was a private engagement.”The source also said, “They are over the moon, and from what I hear, so in love!”Cowan wore the yellow diamond ring with a black couture look inspired by Erté. Page Six reported that the ring is by Cartier. Cowan also designed his own outfit and Smith’s matching look for the gala.Smith, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, later shared photos of the couple’s Met Gala outfits on Instagram. Quoting Cowan, Smith wrote, “I have always loved Erté. I love the way he brought costume art to the world through his visionary illustrations.”The caption continued, “The infamous 1920s opulence and craft. 255,000 individual crystals and beads. 2,000 hours of artisanal hand sewing. This look is a love letter to the king of fashion illustration, and to my love, Sam.”

Smith and Cowan were first linked in December 2022. They attended the White House ceremony where then-President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law. The law repealed the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and ensured federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages. Both Smith and Cowan are UK natives. Since their first public appearance together, they have been photographed showing PDA in New York City, going to tattoo appointments, and attending several runway shows.The couple made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala in coordinated outfits. They also attended the event together in 2025 before returning as a couple for the 2026 Met Gala.
