Riteish Deshmukh opened up about a colossal prank fail where he feigned a breakup with Genelia D’Souza, accidentally striking a chord with her emotions and reshaping his sense of humor. This heartwarming moment on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ served as a testament to his newfound empathy.

Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh once looked back on a prank from his dating days with Genelia D’Souza that went entirely wrong and changed how he approached humor in their relationship. The incident came up during a past appearance on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ where the couple openly reflected on their early years together. What began as a harmless joke quickly became an emotional moment that stuck with Riteish and became one of the most-discussed stories from their relationship.

A prank that ended all pranks

Riteish told Kapil Sharma that he once tried to joke with Genelia by pretending to end their relationship. he made the call himself and said they were breaking up. The joke failed instantly. Genelia took the message seriously and reacted with genuine emotion. Her response stunned Riteish. He later admitted that he never dared to prank her again after seeing how deeply it affected her.The couple first shared the story on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ for everyone to hear. Riteish shared that he calls Genelia “Genee,” while she affectionately calls him “Dholu.” The playful tone carried on when Kapil Sharma asked whether they took pheras at their wedding or simply exchanged an oath.Riteish followed it with a remark that sent the audience into laughter. “Phere liye they. His reaction underlined comic timing and his ease with poking fun at himself.Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza first crossed paths in 2003 during the making of ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’. What began as a first film together later led to their wedding in 2012. They now have two sons, Riaan and Rahyl. Genelia returned to acting after motherhood with films such as ‘It’s My Life’, ‘Mister Mummy’, ‘Trial Period’, and ‘Ved’, and later appeared in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. Riteish stayed busy in mainstream cinema with the ‘Housefull’ series and films including ‘Baaghi 3’, ‘Marjaavaan’, and ‘Ved’, along with titles like ‘Raid 2’ and ‘Mastiii 4’. Up to 2025, he has mixed big commercial projects with strong regional work. In past interviews, the couple have said they value keeping their family life steady while continuing to work.
