Rishabh Sawhney reveals the biggest takeaway from training with international action directors for 'Nagabandham': 'Safety was always the biggest lesson'

Rishabh Sawhney is getting a lot of praise for his powerful double role in ‘Nagabandham,’ where he plays the fearless Ali and the ruthless Ahmad Shah Abdali. The versatile actor’s ability to play two opposing personalities has become one of the film’s biggest talking points. The audience appreciated his screen presence and the action sequences, but Rishabh Sawhney has now revealed the amount of preparation that went into bringing both characters to life. He shared that months of training with internationally acclaimed action directors played a major role in helping him perform the physically demanding scenes with confidence.

Rishabh Sawhney credits international action directors

Speaking about the film’s action preparation in an exclusive interaction with Etimes, Rishabh Sawhney explained that the team worked with two international stunt experts, each specialising in a different style of combat. “We had two international action directors on this film. One handled the close-combat sequences, while the other focused on sword fighting. Both of them were fantastic to learn from because they were extremely precise in their work,” he said. The actor also praised the Indian stunt team for their expertise and highlighted the biggest lesson he took away from the experience. “Our Indian action masters were brilliant too, and each of them had their own speciality. The biggest thing I learnt from everyone was that safety always comes first. They made sure safety remained the top priority throughout the shoot. We worked with Kecha Khamphakdee and Vlad Rimburg, and it was an incredible learning experience,” he added.

Rishabh Sawhney’s months of preparation reflected in every action sequence

Rishabh Sawhney’s hard work is clearly visible in the film’s action scenes, where both of his characters demand completely different physical styles and body language. The actor kept his identities separate for each role, from Ali’s ground combat scenes to Ahmad Shah Abdali’s grand sword-fighting scenes. His transformation has been praised by audiences and critics alike, with many lauding the intensity he brought to every frame. These action scenes have now become one of the movie’s major highlights and have once again proved that Rishabh is capable of taking up physically demanding roles.

With ‘Fighter,’ where he played Azhar Akhtar, already a success, ‘Nagabandham’ is yet another milestone in Rishabh Sawhney’s career. The fantasy action drama features the actor in the demanding dual role of Ali and Ahmad Shah Abdali, demonstrating his acting range and physical transformation. It is a mix of large scale action, history and fantasy with elaborate fight sequences choreographed by Indian and international stunt teams.
