Richard Rishi led ‘Draupathi 2′: Cast, crew, plot, controversies

Richard Rishi led ‘Draupathi 2': Cast, crew, plot, controversies of Mohan G helmed period drama revealed

The song ‘Aasma’ from Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s film ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’ has been released, showcasing a realistic portrayal of budding romance. Sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Neeti Mohan, the track aims to evoke emotional resonance. The film, directed by Ravi Udyawar, is set for a theatrical release on February 20, 2026.

Mohan G, the director of ‘Draupathi’, collaborates with actor Richard Rishi once again in ‘Draupathi 2’, different from their previous work on ‘Draupathi’ and ‘Rudra Thandavam’. The film uses a grand historical backdrop to showcase the director’s recurring ideological narratives. Richard Rishi plays the title character in an epicentre of politics, war, and leadership.Cast and technical team power of ‘Draupadi 2’The film also stars Rakshana Induchoodan in the lead role, alongside Natty Nataraj and Chirag Jani. Vela Ramamoorthy, Y Gee Mahendran, Barani, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gourang, Saravanan Subbiah, Deviyani Sharma, Divi and Jayavel are also part of an abundant supporting cast. Also, with an ensemble cast and a historical backdrop, ‘Draupathi 2′ is determined to impress through performances and a high production value. The makers have promised to focus on the largeness of the period drama through action sequences and costumes.’Draupathi 2′ controversy, censor debate, and international ban’Draupathi 2′ is embroiled in legal troubles even before hitting the theaters. A petition has been filed before a court against the portrayal of certain kings and communities regarding historical events. The Madras High Court refused to entertain the petition and put a stoppage to the film’s release since the Central Board of Film Certification had already approved the release of the film. The movie was also prohibited in Qatar on the same account. Meanwhile, these events have magnified this film’s current status, and its release has been dubbed one of the most talked about Tamil films of the week.Plot set against the 14th-century Hoysala eraSet in the 14th century, this story is inspired by the Hoysala dynasty during the reign of Veera Vallalar III. This is a story about invaders, change in kingdom powers and the fight of local warriors (Kadavarayas of Senthamangalam). However, above all, the film is into identity, courage, and defiance against foreign invasion. Although it is based on history, the storytelling may be contemporary in its ideological outlook, hence being both historical and political.’Draupathi 2’ expectationsDespite the whirlwind of legal battles and international bans, anticipation for ‘Draupathi 2’ has reached a fever pitch ahead of its theatrical debut. The film is scheduled for a release on January 23, 2026. Go to Source
