Raveena Tandon once recalled being called ‘thunder thighs’

Raveena Tandon once recalled being body-shamed in toxic gossip magazines of a bygone era: 'I was called thunder thighs'

Raveena Tandon revealed the dark side of 90s gossip magazines. She described how these magazines impacted careers through body shaming. Actresses faced immense pressure and criticism. Raveena herself was called names like ‘thunder thighs’. She highlighted the bias in female editors siding with male stars. She expressed her displeasure with the vicious journalism of that era.

Raveena Tandon once opened up about the dark side of ’90s gossip magazines, sharing how they could make or break careers with harsh criticism and body-shaming. In a candid conversation, she reflected on the pressures actresses faced and the impact of toxic media during that era.

Body shaming was common in the ’90s

Talking to ANI in 2023, Raveena opened up about body shaming and toxic gossip magazines that could ruin careers. She didn’t hold back about ’90s gossip mags, calling them the worst. According to her, many of the women behind them body-shamed and slut-shamed others, yet today they present themselves as feminists—a fact she finds hard to believe.

Called names like ‘thunder thighs’

The actress is still admired for her beauty and charm, but she revealed she faced body-shaming in the industry. Speaking to Smita Prakash, she said she was called names like ‘TTs’ and ‘thunder thighs’ in the ’90s. Starting her career at 16, she admitted she was naturally plump and full of baby fat—something she laughs about now and doesn’t mind at all.

Many actresses faced similar attacks

She further explained that she wasn’t exaggerating. She recalled that not just her, but many actresses faced harsh body-shaming in magazines. According to her, female editors often sided with male stars, and if a hero wanted to criticize an actress, magazines would publish damaging stories. Even when corrections were printed later, they went unnoticed, while the initial sensational headlines had already made the impact.Raveena concluded that she was utterly displeased with the ‘viciousness’ of ’90s journalism and decided to take a break after her marriage.
