Rani Mukerji’s acclaimed Mardaani franchise returns with Mardaani 3, shifting its release to January 30th. Following its predecessors’ focus on societal evils, this installment promises a dark, brutal reality. Mukerji reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, marking her return after a three-year hiatus and a National Award win. Janki Bodiwala joins the cast.

For over a decade now, Rani Mukerji led Mardaani has stood as the most successful solo female-led film franchise in Hindi cinema. Her portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy has not only earned her critical acclaim but also commercial appreciation. The franchise now moves into its third instalment with Mardaani 3, which will once again see Rani reprising the role of Shivani. In a strategic move, the makers of the film announced on Saturday that the film will now arrive earlier than expected. Instead of 27th February the film will not hit the cinema halls on 30th January. The release date will give the film a clean two weeks at the box office with Shahid Kapoor- Vishal Bharadwaj’s O’Romeo releasing only on 13th February.

While the first part tackled with the grim realities of human trafficking, Mardaani 2 explored the chilling mind of a psychotic serial rapist who dared to challenge the system. Mardaani 3 will delve into a dark, brutal reality of our society, continuing the franchise’s legacy of gripping, issue-based storytelling. Mardaani 3 is produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Abhiraj Minawala. Abhiraj in the past has been associated with films like Sultan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Tiger 3. The film marks the return of Rani Mukerji after a gap of almost 3 years, he last release was Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, she won the Best Actress National award for the film. In Mardaani 3 she will be supported by Janki Bodiwala who was last seen in Ajay Devgn led Shaitaan. Rani also has King with Shah Rukh Khan in the pipeline.
