'Randamoozham' movie update: Rishab Shetty likely to direct MT Vasudevan Nair’s dream project - Report

Fans of Malayalam cinema have renewed hope for the long-awaited film adaptation of M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s novel ‘Randamoozham’. Reports suggest ‘Kantara’ director Rishab Shetty might helm the project, with early discussions already underway. MT’s daughter confirmed a global project is planned, aiming for a 2026 release, following previous delays.

Malayalam cinema lovers have been waiting for many years to see ‘Randamoozham’ on the big screen. The novel was written by the legendary writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. It is one of his most loved works. Now, there is fresh hope for fans.New reports say that the film version of ‘Randamoozham’ may finally happen and ‘Kantara’s Rishab Shetty may helm the movie. Talks are going on and things are slowly moving ahead.

Rishab Shetty name comes into picture

Kannada actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty is likely to direct ‘Randamoozham’ as per the latest reports by Mathrubhumi. Reportedly MT Vasudevan Nair’s family say that early talks had already happened. These discussions took place around one-and-a-half years ago. It is said that MT himself showed interest and took the first step to talk to Rishab Shetty. An official announcement is expected sometime this year.

Past delays and fresh hope

This is not the first time ‘Randamoozham’ was planned as a film. Earlier, many production houses tried to bring it to cinema. At one point a contract was signed with filmmaker Sreekumar Menon. But the project faced long delays. Because of this MT, later stepped back from the agreement and took back the screenplay. After that, there were no clear updates for a long time.

Family speaks and 2026 plan

MT Vasudevan Nair’s daughter Ashwathi recently shared an important update. Talking earlier to Asianet News, she said the film is planned as a global project. Ashwathi said, “For the last two years, I have been fully involved with this project. It is a big team. Team building is almost complete.” She also said, “There is a big production house, and a team that is very capable of making this film well.” She added that they want to launch the film properly with a first-look poster. Ashwathi clearly said, “We can definitely expect it in 2026.”Mammootty recently shared an emotional post on the first death anniversary of MT Vasudevan Nair. P Mammootty shared a picture with the legend and wrote on Facebook, “One year since my beloved mentor passed away. Always in my memories.”
