‘Ranbir was just starting’: Konkona on ‘Wake Up Sid’

‘Ranbir Kapoor was just starting’: Konkona Sensharma calls ‘Wake Up Sid’ a less mainstream film

Konkona Sensharma is the daughter of renowned filmmaker and actress Aparna Sen, yet she has never quite felt like a Bollywood insider. With over 50 films to her credit, many of which are offbeat or non-commercial, Konkona has carved her own unique path in the industry.

Konkona Sensharma felt on the periphery of the Bollywood world

When asked about the Bombay film world compared to Delhi, in an interview with Mid-day, the ‘Page 3’ actress said, “I was actually very removed from the film industry world, I think. I’ve actually not really ever felt like an insider in anything. That’s almost been a part of my identity that I’m a little bit on the periphery of things and a bit of an outsider. I really enjoy that perspective. I don’t really see myself as a mainstream star.”Even with her famous background, Konkona has consistently carved her own path and never chased typical stardom.

Konkona Sensharma describes ‘Wake Up Sid’ as less mainstream

Among her films, the one many people remember is the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Wake Up Sid’. Speaking about it, the ‘Omkara’ actress said, “I have done around 55 to 60 films. A few of them are what would be considered more mainstream, and many of them are not. Even when I have done mainstream films, it’s usually the not-so-mainstream film of that particular studio, like ‘Wake Up Sid’. I think it’s perhaps one of Dharma’s less mainstream films.”The ‘Life in a… Metro’ actress also spoke about Ranbir Kapoor, who was new to films at the time. She said, “Ranbir was just starting off then. He was so new and young.”
