'I stopped hanging out with my parents': Ranbir Kapoor once recalled feeling 'sad, empty and uninspired' after Rockstar

Ranbir Kapoor shares how the film Rockstar left him feeling empty and sad after its completion. He found solace in the light-hearted film Barfi. Nargis Fakhri recounts her unexpected journey to landing the role in Rockstar, attributing it to destiny. She praises director Imtiaz Ali and co-star Ranbir Kapoor for making her first film experience comfortable and memorable.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar remains one of his most powerful performances. The actor once revealed how the Imtiaz Ali directorial left a lasting impression on him.

Ranbir Kapoor on feeling empty after Rockstar

In an old interview with TBIP, Ranbir said, “I just was uninspired. Not saying that, oh, I’ve done such a great work, I was simply uninspired. I just didn’t have anything in me. I stopped hanging out with my parents. I used to just be like a vegetable lying on my bed, not watching TV. I started to read a lot, a lot of biographies. But I was… I was empty. You know, I was sad. I was… I don’t know what it was. It was sad that such a special film was over. It was sad because I gave so much to it. And I started questioning myself, do I have more to give somewhere else?”

Elaborating further, he added, “But then I really got saved because I did such a nice, light, happy film called Barfi!, which was a bit of sunshine in my life at that time. You know, because it’s… it’s so joyous, so special to play a character like that.”

Nargis Fakhri on how she landed Rockstar

In 2021 interview with ETimes, Nargis Fakhri spoke about how she came on board for Rockstar. She said, “I was sent an email about an audition. I really believe it was destiny that this happened to me. I wasn’t even living in India and had never been there. From what I heard, Imtiaz saw an ad for a jewelry campaign with me in it, which I had shot while living in Greece. And I assume he got my info from the company and the rest is history. The longer version is way more interesting, but I probably should put that in a book.”

Nargis on working with Ranbir and Imtiaz Ali

She further added, “Facing the camera for the first time was actually easy for me since I have a modeling background and have done tons of TV commercials before getting into films. Also, Imtiaz Ali really knows how to make his actors feel comfortable in front of the camera. He is an amazing director.””To this day, I am grateful to have worked with Ranbir as my first co-star. He is a fantastic actor and easy to work with. Also getting to know his mom was a blessing as she was very sweet to me. It was really comforting to have her in my life at that time as I was all alone in India,” she shared.Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranbir will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, which also stars Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt. Apart from this, he also has Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan. Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s much-awaited filming Animal Park is also in the pipeline. Go to Source
