Ranbir Kapoor had once revealed why Kishore Kumar’s biopic was stalled

Ranbir Kapoor had once revealed why Kishore Kumar's biopic was stalled, hoped the project would be revived in the future

For years, fans were excited about the possibility of seeing Ranbir Kapoor play legendary singer Kishore Kumar in a biopic. The project was much talked about and was set to showcase one of the most fascinating journeys in Indian entertainment. But the film never got beyond the planning stage, despite significant interest from both the audience and the film industry. A resurfaced interview of Ranbir has now brought fresh attention to why the ambitious project was eventually shelved.

Ranbir Kapoor explains the real reason behind complications in the film

In an old podcast conversation with AIB that has gone viral again, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that legal complications played a major role in stopping the film from moving forward. The actor said that a family had not given permission to show an important person from Kishore Kumar’s life. That character was a key part of one of the biggest conflicts in the singer’s journey, so it was difficult to tell the story accurately without that character, Ranbir said. He said he still hopes the project can be revived in the future.

Why biopics are often difficult to make

Ranbir Kapoor also talked about the challenges filmmakers face while making biographical films during the discussion. He noted that in many real-life stories, several people’s lives intertwine with the main character. Filmmakers can run into legal and ethical problems if they don’t get the right permissions. He remembered similar cases during the making of ‘Sanju,’ where some apparently did not want their names or personal stories told. “These restrictions make it difficult most of the time to show a full and honest version of someone’s life on screen,” said Ranbir Kapoor.

Fans still hope for the Kishore Kumar biopic

However, many fans still feel that Ranbir Kapoor would be the best choice for the Kishore Kumar project that was shelved for years. The resurfaced clip has sparked conversations once again on social media, with movie lovers expressing their disappointment that the film never materialised. Ranbir has said that there is no official update on the biopic at the moment, but his comments hint that the door has not been completely shut. Until then, the shelved project remains one of Bollywood’s biggest “what if” tales, leaving fans to wonder what could have been.
