Ramayana: Fans get glimpse of AI tech to be used to dub film

Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash's fans get glimpse of AI tech to be used to dub film for multi-lingual release

We are still a year away from the release of Nitesh Tiwari’s big screen epic ‘Ramayana’, and to make that wait a little more bearable, Namit Malhotra’s production company, DNEG, has released a special video for fans. Unlike the usual clips, teasers and posters, this one features the first-ever video demonstrating how AI tech will be used to dub the upcoming epic in multiple international languages.

Ramayana to be dubbed using AI

Those eager to see Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai talk in their regional languages will have the chance to do so, thanks to the AI-driven lip-sync technology that matches the actors’ lip movements to translate dialogue. This will reportedly create an illusion that they are speaking naturally in various languages. A video demonstrating the same was posted online and soon shared on various fan handles.

Vision behind the technology

Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, producer Malhotra explained at an event that the technology is designed to “make the story feel local to audiences around the world.”“Language is a challenge,” Malhotra said at the event and went on to add, “We are making a story that we believe is from India but meant for the world. With the use of technology, we are localising the film so that it plays in English, Spanish, or Japanese—with lip-sync—without the need for subtitles or awkward dubbing.”Those who watched the Telugu version of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’, would have got a preview of the magic set to unfold when ‘Ramayana’ hits the big screens.

Ramayana release date

‘Ramayana’, that is slated to hit screens on Diwali 2026, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The film will have its second part released on Diwali 2027.
