Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’, which depicts the legendary Maratha king’s rise to power and his battles against the Mughal empire, is set to stream on Netflix on June 26. The film stars Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, and Abhishek Bachchan in key roles.

Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial venture, ‘Raja Shivaji’, is all set to make its OTT debut after a successful theatrical run. The film, which Riteish both directed and produced, chronicles the extraordinary journey of the legendary Maratha king and his fearless battles against the Mughal empire, driven by unshakeable courage and an unwavering devotion to his people in his quest to establish Swarajya.

‘Raja Shivaji’ OTT release date and platform

‘Raja Shivaji’ made its big screen debut on May 1 of this year, earning widespread appreciation from both audiences and reviewers. According to Zee News, the film is set to make its way onto Netflix on June 26, though an official announcement from the streaming platform is yet to be made.

What is ‘Raja Shivaji’ about?

The film tells the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and how he grew from a young, determined boy into one of the greatest kings India has ever known. The film is set in 17th-century India and shows how his mother, Rajmata Jijabai, shaped his values and inspired his dream of building Hindavi Swarajya. As the story moves ahead, Shivaji slowly builds his power by gathering trusted people around him, taking control of important forts, and using smart battle plans to keep his kingdom and people safe. The film also shows his brave fights against strong enemies like the Adil Shahi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. One of the most exciting parts of the film is his famous face-off with Afzal Khan, a key moment that played a big role in making him the legend he is today.

‘Raja Shivaji’ features Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, while his real-life wife Genelia Deshmukh plays Saibai, the wife of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film also stars Vidya Balan as Khadija Sultana, Sanjay Dutt as Afzal Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan as Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosale. The supporting cast includes well-known names like Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Amole Gupte, Boman Irani, and Jitendra Joshi. To top it all, Salman Khan also makes a special cameo appearance in the film.
