A remarkable opening weekend of Rs. 33.90 crore India net across three days, anchored by a strong Rs. 11.35 crore opening day, the film witnessed a modest dip on Saturday before a 13.7% recovery on Sunday to Rs. 12.00 crore. Today marks its first Monday since release and shows a strong grip on the audience, with total India net collections crossing the Rs. 34 crore milestone. The film’s secret has been the high-octane surprise appearance by Salman Khan as the loyal warrior Jiva Mahala, sparking a social media frenzy that translated into massive footfalls across both single screens and multiplexes.

More about ‘Raja Shivaji’

The film focuses on the early life and visionary Swarajya mission of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the 17th-century Maratha warrior king whose military genius, administrative innovation and unshakeable commitment to his people created an empire from almost nothing and changed the course of Indian history. A major factor behind the film’s “mayhem” in theaters, as described by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is the star-studded cast. The film features Sanjay Dutt as the menacing Afzal Khan, Abhishek Bachchan as Sambhaji Shahaji Maharaj, and Genelia Deshmukh as Saibai. The film also marks the debut of Riteish and Genelia’s son, Rahyl Deshmukh, who plays the younger version of Shivaji Maharaj.’Raja Shivaji’ has been released in two-versions. The Marathi version runs 195 minutes (3 hours 15 minutes) incorporating additional historical context, cultural nuance and narrative detail crafted specifically for Marathi audiences. The Hindi version runs 187 minutes (3 hours 7 minutes) which has been edited for crisper narrative flow for non-Marathi audiences. The CBFC has certified the film U/A 16+.The theater atmosphere turns electric the moment Salman Khan appears on screen as Jiva Mahala. His portrayal of Shivaji Maharaj’s legendary loyalist is more than just a cameo with the dialogue of “Shivaji nahi; Shivaji Raje mhanaycha” becoming the film’s defining viral moment and resonating deeply with the cultural sentiments of Maharashtra. In just three days, Raja Shivaji has already surpassed the lifetime collection of the 2014 hit ‘Lai Bhaari.’ At Rs. 100 crore, it is the most expensive Marathi film ever made, utilizing world-class VFX and the cinematography of Santosh Sivan.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
