Priyanka Chopra says she felt ‘really lost’ in Bollywood during her initial years: ‘I was trying to navigate this crazy movie industry’

Priyanka Chopra may be one of the world’s biggest stars today, but her rise began with moments of doubt, confusion and feeling completely out of place. Long before she became a global name across films, music and production, she was a young outsider trying to make sense of an industry she knew nothing about. And today, they are the reason she champions bold, emotional and meaningful stories through her work as a producer.

Priyanka Chopra reveals her early journey shaped her production vision

In a recent interview with PTI, the ‘Barfi!’ actress shared why she chose to back the kind of films she produces now. She revealed that the journey was personal, and deeply tied to her first few years in the industry.She said, “As a producer, I’m empathetic, and our ethos is a lot around wanting to give opportunities to newer filmmakers or filmmakers that want to achieve something that they haven’t been able to or are kind of hitting a wall somewhere. My production side kind of comes from what personally moves me.”

Outsider experience influenced her filmmaking choices

Priyanka has always been open about entering Bollywood without any connections. Her parents were doctors in the Indian Army and had no idea about the entertainment world. This meant the actress had to rely on her instincts and navigate a completely unfamiliar space.Remembering those early days, she said, “I didn’t know why I was gravitating towards filmmakers and stories that were maybe marginalised or told that they’re not what is expected… As I’m talking about it, I think it does come from the fact that when I joined the industry, I didn’t have it. I was trying to navigate this crazy movie industry by myself with my parents, who were doctors and who also had no idea about the business. And I kind of felt really lost.”

Even though she felt lost at the beginning, Priyanka rose to the top of Bollywood through pure talent and hard work. She earned both fame and praise with films such as ‘Andaz’, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, ‘Aitraaz’ and ‘Fashion’ and many more. By the 2010s, she had become one of the industry’s leading actresses, known for her versatility, screen presence and dedication.Her strong run in Bollywood eventually led her to Hollywood, where she continued to grow, becoming a recognisable global figure.
