PC admits being hurt by conspiracy theories around marriage

Priyanka Chopra admits being hurt by conspiracy theories around marriage to Nick Jonas; recalls marrying within six months of meeting

Priyanka Chopra has once again addressed the persistent conspiracy theories surrounding her marriage to Nick Jonas. In a recent conversation, the actress spoke about the speculation, the age-gap chatter, and marrying within six months of meeting — making it clear that the outside noise no longer affects her.

“I don’t know what about us rubbed people the wrong way”

Ever since Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in 2018, their relationship has been under constant scrutiny — from their 10-year age gap to their intercultural wedding. Reacting to rumours predicting their split, Priyanka told Variety, “We’re eight years in. If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it.”She admitted that the commentary was initially painful. “I don’t know what was it about us that rubbed people the wrong way. I think there was the intercultural nature of it — different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful.”However, the couple chose to turn inward rather than react publicly. “And we both, instead of looking out, just sort of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ So it’s like water off a duck’s back now,” she added.

On marrying within six months: “I didn’t know if it was even real”

Priyanka also spoke about how quickly their relationship moved. The couple got married in Rajasthan when she was 36 and Nick was 26 — within six months of meeting.“We got married really quick, within six months of meeting. When I first married him, I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like this is crazy. This is put on,” she confessed.

But what convinced her otherwise was Nick’s unwavering authenticity. “Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on. He’s constantly sincere. His whole day, whatever the conversation is, he is sincere.”She further credited his upbringing for shaping that quality. “He started working when he was really young. His parents are the most wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints, so I can see where it comes from. But it’s such a disarming quality about him.” Priyanka and Nick, who had both a Christian and Hindu wedding ceremony in Rajasthan, welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, in January 2022.
