Producer Pahlaj Nihlani revealed that Govinda and Chunky Panday, once rivals, met for the first time at his home late at night. Their unexpected suggestion inspired a film idea. Nihlani shared that though he never befriended Govinda, mutual respect remains from their earlier interactions during Rangeela.

Producer Pahlaj Nihlani, who once led the Central Board of Film Certification, shared insights about his career in Indian cinema, his work with Bollywood celebrities, and various experiences. He also revealed interesting details about the rivalry between Govinda and Chunky Panday, among other topics.Memorable late-night meeting between Govinda and Chunky PandayDuring an interview with Pinkvilla, veteran producer and ex-chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, Pahlaj spoke about the well-known rivalry between Govinda and Chunky Panday. He shared a memorable incident when Govinda visited him late at night while he was unwell. Nihlani recalled, “As Govinda was about to leave at 2 AM, midnight, Chunky Panday came. Both then sat till 5 AM.”First meeting and unexpected friendship proposalThe producer shared that this was the first time Govinda and Chunky met. He recalled, “They met and told me ‘Make a picture with both of us.’ Although they never met but they were enemies. I don’t know why?”.Competition rather than rivalry sparks film ideaWhen asked if it was rivalry or competition, Nihlani elaborated that it was competition. He disclosed what he did after Govinda and Chunky left his house. He recalled that as soon as they left, around 5 or 5:15 AM, he was trying to sleep but their suggestion kept coming to his mind. At that moment, he got an idea for a film about a father having two useless sons, thinking something like that would work.Present relationship with Govinda and reflections on friendshipTalking about his present relationship with Govinda, Nihlani said there was never friendship between them, but Govinda respects him. He continued that the little friendship they had was more like personal sharing during the time of Rangeela, adding that he had changed himself as a youngster.
