‘OG’ vs ‘Good Bad Ugly’ comparisons: Director Sujeeth responds

'OG' vs 'Good Bad Ugly' comparisons: Director Sujeeth responds, 'I have known Adhik for a long time'

Pawan Kalyan’s latest action drama ‘OG’, directed by Sujeeth, has been making waves at the box office as it crossed the Rs 100 crore mark within just two days of its release. However, fans and netizens have drawn comparisons between ‘OG’ and the Tamil film ‘Good Bad Ugly’, directed by Adhik Ravichandran and starring Ajith Kumar. These comparisons are especially due to their similar themes surrounding gangsters and especially the Yakuza narrative which we have also seen in Kamal Haasan’s recent release ‘Thug Life’.

Sujeeth clarifies the timeline

In a recent interaction with Idlebrain Live, director Sujeeth addressed these comparisons. He explained that he had released the teaser of ‘OG’ before the script of ‘Good Bad Ugly’ was written. “I have known Adhik for a long time and had watched his films. He genuinely loves me and had sent long messages to me after Saaho,” said the ‘OG’ director.

Pawan Kalyan’s ‘They Call Him OG’ Surpasses ‘Pushpa 2’ At Box Office

Sujeeth further said that he has also seen Adhik’s ‘Trisha Ilana Nayanthara’ film and they often discuss about their films.”When the ‘OG’ teaser was released, ‘GBU’ hadn’t even begun shooting. They had only released OG Sambhavam. There was never any intention to affect our film, but people tend to judge based on what comes first. Not everyone will agree or understand this,” Sujeeth said.He also added, “I’m happy for Adhik and truly appreciated his work in Mark Antony. When I heard that a song from his film was coming, I didn’t mind, because we’re all trying to make good films. Arjun Das appears in both films, but he was cast in his project only after we had finished shooting with him.”

OG’s strong box office run

Despite mixed comparisons, ‘OG’ is enjoying a strong performance at the box office. According to early estimates from the Sacnilk website, the film collected Rs 19.25 crore (all languages) on Friday, September 26. While this marks a dip from its massive Day 1 earnings of Rs 63.75 crore, the two-day India net now stands at Rs 84.75 crore. The worldwide collections for the film stand at Rs 104 crores.
