‘Nishaanchi’ earns just Rs 25 lakh on day 1

Anurag Kashyap’s 'Nishaanchi' earns just Rs 25 lakh on day 1

Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture, ‘Nishaanchi,’ starring Aishvary Thackeray in a debut double role, has unfortunately opened poorly at the box office, earning only Rs 25 lakh. Despite positive reviews highlighting its compelling narrative and blend of genres, the film’s future in theaters remains uncertain. However, its potential success on OTT platforms offers a glimmer of hope for revival.

Maverick film director and writer Anurag Kashyap who is known for his films like Satya, Black Friday, Dev.D, Gangs of Waseeypur and Bombay Velvet is back on the big screen with his latest film Nishaanchi. The director suggested in his interviews that the film is his most Salim-Javed-esque film. But the film has taken a disastrous opening at the ticket window. The film which marks the debut of Bal Thackeray’s grandson Aishvary Thackeray in a double role has minted just Rs 25 lakh as per rough data by Sacnilk. The film follows the story of twin roles played by Aishvary who are caught in a failed attempt to rob a bank and what follows becomes the crux of the film. The Times Of India in its reviews said ‘Nishaanchi’ is not a perfect film, but it is a compelling one. The runtime is heavy, and the songs don’t stay with you, but the world Kashyap builds and the performances make it worth sitting through. It mixes crime, comedy, and family drama in a way that feels both old-school and newThe film also stars Monika Pawar, Vedika Pinto, Kumud Mishra, Viineet Kumar Singh. Though before the release of the film there were talks about the film getting a second part as well but at this point going by the performance of the film, things look unsure. Also the thing with Anurag’s films usually is that they have a huge following when they hit the OTT platforms, with one of the producers a streaming platform itself – one could see the revival of the film. But at this point the film needs a lot of luck for it to sustain at the box office in the days to come.
