Nick Cannon says he’s more protective of daughter Monroe

Nick Cannon on letting son Moroccan date at 15 but not daughter Monroe: 'I am more protective of my daughter'

Nick Cannon has said he allows his 15-year-old son Moroccan to date, but he does not give the same freedom to Moroccan’s twin sister, Monroe. The comedian and father of 12 admitted that he follows a “double standard” while raising his son and daughter with Mariah Carey. Cannon said he encourages his son to enter the dating world, but he feels more protective of his daughter because of the risks he believes young women face.

Nick Cannon explains dating rule for son Moroccan

Speaking on Saturday’s episode of the TMZ Podcast, Nick Cannon said, “My son been dating and I’ve allowed it. I’ve encouraged it.” The comment came after interviewer Towanda Robinson asked whether he was also “allowing” and “encouraging” Monroe to date.Cannon quickly made his position clear. “No, absolutely not. It’s absolutely a double standard,” he said. He added, “You have to because first of all, and I know I get in trouble a lot because I say things with my chest, but, there is a difference when parenting a son and when parenting a daughter.”The ‘Wild ‘N Out’ star said his concern comes from a place of protection. “I am more protective of my daughter because there’s things out there that I have to protect my daughter from,” he explained.

Nick Cannon says daughter Monroe must explain dates

Cannon said he views his son’s dating life differently. “Like, as we know, there’s certain types of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from. My son, it’s a different conversation when he’s going out into the dating world.”He also spoke about his fears around domestic violence. “But if somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail,” Cannon said. He called that situation his “worst nightmare” and added that “I’m going to jail for forever.”Cannon said he does not worry about the same issues with Moroccan. He also said he is not concerned about “gold diggers” because “he’s got a lot of money. His mama’s Mariah Carey.”Still, Cannon said Monroe will not be blocked forever. “We made a deal. If she can explain to me what’s going to happen on these dates, then she can go,” he said.He added that he wants open talks before college. “I’m preparing her for college. I know that’s out of my control. I can’t do nothing about it. Hopefully we’re still having all these open conversations. My daughter tells me any and everything.”Cannon said he wants Monroe to ask questions and make safe choices when she starts dating.
