‘My restaurant crashed, was thrown out’: Ranveer Brar opens up about his journey

‘My restaurant crashed, was thrown out’: Ranveer Brar on his journey from being homeless to 'MasterChef'

Celebrity chef Ranveer Brar is one of India’s most beloved culinary stars, known for his creative cooking and calm personality on shows like ‘MasterChef India’. But his journey wasn’t always so perfect. The celebrated chef recently opened up about a dark period that broke him completely. Long before attaining fame on small screen, he had lost his dream restaurant in the United States, a failure that left him bankrupt and homeless.

Ranveer Brar opens up about losing everything

Ranveer Brar had opened a fine-dining restaurant in Boston, hoping to make his mark on the global culinary scene. For a while, things looked bright. However, an unexpected fallout with his business partners changed everything.”My restaurant in Boston crashed. We had a fallout, and I was thrown out of the restaurant by the partners,” he revealed on the Ranveer Allahbadia Podcast. Overnight, his dream was gone. He had no money, no home, and no idea what to do next. For days, he slept on benches in the city. The nights were cold and uncertain. Yet, the chef says those tough days became a turning point. “Those days taught me not to take myself too seriously,” he said. “Even though it was tough, I actually enjoyed the phase because it taught me so much.” During this time, Brar found comfort in what he loved most: cooking. He began helping in a Gurudwara kitchen, making langar for the community. It gave him a sense of purpose and reminded him why he fell in love with food.

The early days in Lucknow and the making of a chef

Ranveer Brar’s love for food started as a child in his hometown, Lucknow. He grew up surrounded by the aroma of kebabs, helping his grandmother cook. His family wasn’t thrilled about his decision to become a chef, but he followed his heart. By age 25, he had already become one of India’s youngest executive chefs. The success came fast, but the fall in Boston slowed him down. It taught him that success means nothing without humility. He recalled a lesson from his grandfather: “Whenever you start feeling like a big landlord, just look at the land once. It will only yield if you work on it; otherwise a flood or drought can wipe everything out, and you’re back at zero.” That thought keeps him grounded today. To stay humble, he often takes auto-rickshaw rides to stay in touch with everyday life. When he feels overwhelmed, he spends time with his parents. Looking at them reminds him of what really matters.

Ranveer Brar on rebuilding and rising to success

When his father fell ill, Ranveer returned to India in 2012. This moment marked a new beginning in his career. He started from scratch, from hosting TV shows to creating food stories that touched people’s hearts. His warmth and authenticity made him a fan favorite, and ‘MasterChef India’ turned him into an inspiration. Go to Source
