Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023: Mohanlal reacts to win; says 'This is a major honour for me and for Malayalam cinema'

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 20 (IANS) Actor Mohanlal shared his first reaction after being honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, describing it as a major recognition for himself and a proud achievement for Malayalam cinema.

Veteran actor Mohanlal has shared his first reaction to being named the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. In a note, the actor expressed his heartfelt gratitude and for the honour that he said, was deeply personal and a proud achievement for the Malayalam film industry.

Mohanlal reacts to award win

“I am grateful to the film family and the audience who made me what I am today. I accept this moment with utmost joy. This award is a recognition I can give back to those who have loved me throughout my 48-year cinema career,” Mohanlal said.The actor, who has a career spanning four decades, also thanked the jury and the government for bestowing the nation’s highest film honour upon him. In his note, he added, “I thank my audience, my film family who shaped me, and everyone who has been part of this journey. This is a major honour for me and for Malayalam cinema. I share this recognition with all who love me. I see myself as one travelling along a path walked by many great warriors, and it is a privilege to be part of it.”Looking back at his cinematic journey, Mohanlal called the award an extraordinary milestone. He said, “Many wonderful things happen in life. I thank God and my parents. This is an extraordinary moment. I also remember the many artists who have travelled with us and left us. I am thinking of them at this time.”He will attend the award ceremony in Delhi on September 23, where the President of India will present the honour.

I&B Ministry announces award

On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday made the announcement on its official X handle and wrote, “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.”Mohanlal is the second Malayalam star to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, after the legendary director Adoor Gopalakrishnan who won it in 2004.

PM Modi and other politicians congratulate Mohanlal

Following his win, congratulatory messages poured in with PM Modi sharing his message to congratulations. Posting a photo with the actor, the PM wrote, “Shri Mohanlal G is a symbol of talent and acting versatility. Through decades-long unique artistic journey, he stands as a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema and theatre, with a deep commitment to Kerala culture. He has also delivered outstanding performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. His brilliance across film and theatre mediums is truly inspiring. Congratulations to him on receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his achievements inspire future generations.”From across the state with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also extended his note of congratulations to the star saying, “This recognition is well-deserved for Mohanlal’s extraordinary artistic journey, which has inspired generations.”Minister of Culture Saji Cherian congratulated Mohanlal, highlighting that the award is a major recognition for Malayalam cinema and a shining example of Kerala’s global-level cinematic talent.
