Mammootty celebrates eighth State Film Award win: 'We don’t do films with awards in mind '; Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan and others extend wishes

Veteran actor Mammootty has once again etched his name in history by winning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor which is his eighth in his career.Mammootty’s performance in ‘Bramayugam’ was praised by the jury as the main reason for his victory. Following the announcement, Mammootty expressed gratitude and extended congratulations to his fellow winners. ‘Bramayugam’ was helmed by Rahul Sadasivan.“Thank you, everyone. Congratulations to all who won awards along with me. Congratulations to Asif Ali and Tovino Thomas. Congratulations to Shamla Hamsa, who was chosen as Best Actress, to Soubin Shahir, who won Best Supporting Actor, and to Siddharth Bharathan as well,” he said in a media interaction. The actor also expressed appreciation to his collaborators: “Congratulations to my music director, makeup artist Ronex, and everyone I worked with. Congratulations to the teams of Manjumal Boys and Amal Neerad.”

‘This isn’t a competition, it’s a journey’

Sharing his philosophy on artistic growth, Mammootty remarked that filmmaking was never about chasing awards. “We don’t do films with awards in mind — these things happen in their own way. The story and characters of Bramayugam were unique. This isn’t a competition; it’s a journey. Many people walk alongside us on this path — include them too,” he reflected.He also emphasized unity across generations in cinema: “I’m not from an older generation; I belong to this generation as well. Thank you, everyone.”

Industry pours in congratulations

Mammootty’s win drew warm responses from across the Malayalam film fraternity. Mohanlal took to Twitter, writing, “Heartfelt congratulations to all the winners of the Kerala State Film Awards! Special love to my Ichakka for winning Best Actor.” He also applauded Manjummal Boys and other winners including Shamla Hamza and Chidambaram.

Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan celebrated his father’s triumph with pride, sharing on Instagram, “Congratulations Sun.” Prithviraj Sukumaran also congratulated the winners.
