Mammootty-Mohanlal starrer ‘Patriot’ to hit cinema on April 23: 'The countdown begins NOW'

Mammootty and Mohanlal reunite in lead roles for Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming thriller, ‘Patriot’. The film, also featuring Nayanthara and Fahadh Faasil, is set for a summer release on April 23, 2026. Announced on Republic Day, the movie promises a compelling narrative, with a teaser hinting at themes of social control and resistance.

Mahesh Narayanan’s much-anticipated film ‘Patriot’ starring Mammootty and Mohanlal is gearing up for release. As the country celebrates its 77th Republic Day, the makers of ‘Patriot’ announced the release date. On Monday, January 26, the makers of ‘Patriot’ confirmed that the film is a summer release. ‘Patriot’ will hit the big screens on April 26, Superstar Mohanlal, who plays the lead role alongside Mammootty, announced the release date via his social media handle. The legendary actor took to his X(formerly Twitter) handle to share, “Unleashing the spirit of fearless voices, this Republic Day. #PATRIOT arrives worldwide on April 23, 2026. The countdown begins NOW. #Antojoseph #MaheshNarayanan.”Check out the post here.

What you should know about ‘Patriot’?

Award-winning filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan, best known for his works ‘Take Off’, ‘C U Soon’, and ‘Ariyippu’, is at the helm of ‘Patriot’. Expected to be a thriller, ‘Patriot’ brings together Mammootty and Mohanlal after almost 18 years. Their last film together was ‘Twenty:20’, released in 2008. Even though they have appeared in cameo roles in each other’s films, the upcoming film marks their reunion in lead roles. ‘Patriot’ also has a star-studded ensemble, including Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban. Actors Darshana Rajendran, Revathy, and Zarin Shihab are also part of the cast. Ahead of the release announcement, the makers had dropped character posters from the film, which grabbed eyeballs for all the right reasons. The team wrapped up the shoot earlier this month. While completing the shoot on January 4, they shared a picture from the sets, and the makers said, “That’s a wrap. Blood, sweat, belief. #PATRIOT marches on. See you on the Big screen.”Last year, the makers dropped a teaser, which further added fuel to the anticipation. The teaser opened with a voice-over that said, “I remember there was a time when this nation was controlled by the two of them. Together. Over these years, what they earned wasn’t just followers. Faith. Trust.”Following this, Mammootty appears and says, “They are going to bring social score to people.” Mohanlal appears in the garb of an army personnel and adds, “There are three of us. Do you think you can stop us?”Later, Nayanthara is heard asking, “This program, which is part of the student laptop scheme. Is that similar to Periscope?” The glimpse, however, does not reveal much about the plot or the characters. With a star-studded cast and Mahesh Narayanan at the helm, the expectations are soaring.
