Maj Mohit Sharma’s brother reacts as Dhurandhar gets CBFC clearance

Major Mohit Sharma’s brother reacts as ‘Dhurandhar’ gets CBFC clearance, reveals a screening could have been organised for parents: ‘They were very quick to take a decision’

Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film ‘Dhurandhar’, starring Ranveer Singh, is gearing up for its big release as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved it for a 5 December opening. But the clearance has also sparked fresh debate, with Major Mohit Sharma’s family wondering why the film moved ahead without giving them a chance to view it first. The approval came soon after the Delhi High Court asked the board to review the concerns raised by the parents of late Major Mohit Sharma, who had approached the court seeking a temporary stay on the film. The court also suggested that the CBFC consult the Indian Army if needed before taking a final call. A day later, the board cleared the film, stating that it is a work of fiction.

Family notes CBFC acted quickly overall

Speaking to HT City, Major Mohit Sharma’s brother, Madhur Sharma, said the quick action from the board was positive, even though the family still did not know what information had been evaluated. He said, “I am sure they’ve followed the process and they were very quick to take a decision, which is good. We don’t know what data CBFC has relied on but I am sure they have done their due diligence. They have said that it is a work of fiction so I hope that a disclaimer will be duly added.”

Family feels screening should have happened

Although the film has been given a green signal, Madhur believes the parents should have been shown the film before certification to avoid the confusion currently spreading online. He added, “I just feel that a screening could have been organised for the parents so that any misconceptions floating on social media could have been clarified. People who have lived their entire life with him are in a better position to tell if anything in the film replicates his life, rather than someone outside the ecosystem.”

Family considers next possible legal move

The family has not yet decided on their next step. Madhur said they will only take a call after seeking legal advice. He said, “I am yet to speak to the lawyers… whether we should file a rejoinder…let’s see.”

Social media comparisons intensified confusion online

The discussion began soon after the trailer released. Many social media users started comparing Ranveer Singh’s character in the film to Major Sharma’s life. Madhur also questioned the similarities online and asked for clarity. Some people later asked why the petition was filed if the director had already denied any link. Madhur had earlier explained the timing, saying, “There is a 36–48 hour difference between my tweet and Aditya Dhar’s reply. The petition was filed during that time.”

Family seeks respect and simple clarity only

Madhur made it clear that the family was not seeking any personal gain. Their main concern was honesty and empathy, especially towards families who have lost someone in service. He said, “There is no benefit the parents are looking for. We want people to take a sympathetic, empathetic perspective. This is not just for us but for every family that has lost a son (in military operations) We just want due diligence. If the film is based on him, just say, ‘Sorry, we didn’t inform you.’ If not, say the hype is untrue.”Apart from Ranveer Singh, ‘Dhurandhar’ features a large ensemble including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. Go to Source
