With all the chatter around ‘Ramayana’, and some buzz about the next big mythological epic ‘Mahabharat’, filmmaker Amar Kaushik has now revealed a major update about his highly anticipated film ‘Mahavatar’.
Delays in production
The film, set to star Vicky Kaushal in the lead, was initially slated for a Christmas 2026 release. However, according to the latest reports, the release has now been pushed to 2027, owing to delays in the schedule.
‘Need more time’
In conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kaushik spilled the beans about the project and the challenges of helming a film of such magnitude. “The prep has been going on for six to seven months,” Kaushik told the portal and went on to add, “We’ve been working extensively on set design, weapon design, and character looks. The scripting is complete, but we still need more time.”He also confirmed that Vicky, who is currently busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’, will soon join the prep, once he wraps up his current commitments. “We’re hoping to go on floors by mid-next year,” the director added.
2026 movie line-up
While the delay may disappoint fans, 2026 is promising to be an action-packed year with the release of ‘Ramayana’ which will hit the big screens on Diwali. Vicky’s ‘Love and War’ will also hit the big screen next year, joining the ranks of some big-ticket entertainers, including Hollywood releases like ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
