Madhoo praises Ranveer: ‘People who laughed at him are his fans’

Madhoo Shah praises Ranveer Singh’s journey: ‘Today, the same people who laughed at him are his biggest fans’

Veteran actress Madhoo has showered praise on Ranveer Singh, calling his journey in the film industry “amazing” and admitting that she would love to share screen space with him in the future. In a recent interview, the actress reflected on how her perception of Ranveer evolved over the years and hailed his ability to remain true to himself despite constant criticism. When asked which actors from the current generation she would like to work with, Madhoo first named Janhvi Kapoor, saying the actress reminds her of her late friend Sridevi.“I really like her. She reminds me of the old Sri. When I see Janhvi dance, I find her so graceful. Sri ji jaisi dancer koi nahi thi, aur Janhvi definitely makes her proud. I would like to act with her,” she told Hindi Rush.

‘I would also like to act with Ranveer’

Madhoo then revealed that apart from her long-standing wish to work with Shah Rukh Khan, she is keen on collaborating with Ranveer Singh.“My eternal favourite is Shah Rukh Khan. A long time ago, I got an opportunity to work with him, but that film got shelved. But now I have to say that I would also like to act with Ranveer. He is so amazing,” she said. The actress went on to explain why she admires the actor so much.

‘People laughed at him, but he never changed’

According to Madhoo, Ranveer’s greatest strength is that he never allowed public opinion to dictate his choices.“One thing aspiring actors should learn from Ranveer is that he never cared about anybody’s opinion. When he entered the industry, I myself was one of those people who didn’t really like him. I thought he was okay, maybe a good actor. But then I saw Dil Dhadakne Do, Gully Boy and many other performances. Today, I think he is the best. He is just amazing,” she said.Madhoo admitted that she, too, had criticised the actor’s unconventional fashion choices in the past.“I have criticised his dressing choices. Sometimes he would wear yellow pants, sometimes a skirt. He broke the mindset of the industry. People made fun of him, made memes, laughed at him, but he didn’t care. He kept doing what he believed was right.”

‘Today, those same people are his fans’

The actress said Ranveer’s refusal to conform is what makes his journey inspiring.“Today, he is considered a style icon and one of the best actors. I myself think he is too cool. He had the courage to be laughed at. That is the greatest gift an actor can have. We change ourselves when people laugh at us. We try to fit in. Ranveer never fit in, and today the same people who laughed at him are his biggest fans, including me,” she said.

‘He became an even bigger superstar for me’

Madhoo also recalled a memorable moment with Ranveer at an awards event, where he sang for her on stage.“I was completely won over. When you are an actor who was once a star, that feeling never leaves you. But the world doesn’t always see you that way anymore. When someone like Ranveer makes you feel special, it means a lot. God bless him. After that evening, he became an even bigger superstar in my eyes,” she said. The actress concluded by saying that she would “love to share screen space” with Ranveer, describing his rise from a heavily criticised newcomer to one of Bollywood’s most celebrated stars as nothing short of remarkable.
