Lokah becomes the highest grossing Malayalam film in India

Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra’ beats Manjummel Boys to become the highest grossing Malayalam film in India

Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra has become the highest grossing Malayalam film in India. The film collected 142.90 crore rupees. It surpassed Manjummel Boys’ lifetime collection. The Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen starrer also became the only female led film to cross 100 crore rupees in its home language. It is now the third highest grossing female led film in India.

About a month ago a female superhero with a relatively unknown team but backed by Dulquer Salmaan hit the theaters and today that film Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, directed by Dominic Arun has gone on to become the highest grossing Malayalam film in India with a collection of Rs 142.90 crore . The film has gained the top spot at leaderboard replacing the mammoth Manjummel Boys which had collected Rs 142.08 crore from its lifetime theatrical run. Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen’s film started slowly but with each passing week the buzz around the film grew and it was able to thrive at the box office. In the first week the film collected Rs 54.7 crore, in second week it was Rs 47 crore, in third week it was Rs 27.1 crore and in 4th week Rs 13.25 crore. But it was the Friday collection of Rs 85 lakh as per Sacnilk which catapulted Lokah on to the top spot. The film has been released in multiple languages but Malayalam has been the engine of the film contributing Rs 111.17 crore with Tamil version contributing Rs 14.48 crore and Telugu with Rs 13.65 crore and rest from Hindi. In its 30 day long run the film has gone to make and break many records from only being the third Malayalam film to cross Rs 100 crore in it’s home language to becoming the only female led film to cross Rs 100 crore mark. It has also become the third grossing female led film of India beating Alia Bhatt’s Raazi and Gangubai Kathiwadi. Lokah is a part of a 5 part universe put together by Dulquer and Dominic, the next part will feature Tovino Thomas.
