Konkona shares why son Haroon uses Ranvir Shorey’s surname

'I had to live with long name': Konkona Sensharma shares why son Haroon uses ex-husband Ranvir Shorey’s surname

Konkona Sensharma made her Bollywood debut in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Page 3’ in 2005. She went on to work in films like ‘Wake Up Sid’, ‘Life in a Metro’, ‘Omkara’ and more, becoming one of the most versatile actors in the industry. She also stepped into filmmaking with ‘A Death in the Gunj’ and appeared in the anthology ‘Lust Stories 2’, proving her talent both in front of and behind the camera. While her professional life often makes headlines, Konkona’s personal life also draws attention, even though she generally keeps a low profile.

How Konkona Sen Sharma chose both her parents’ surnames

In a recent chat with Mid-day, Konkona, who carries both her parents’ surnames, opened up about how she decided whether her son would take her long surname or her ex-husband Ranvir Shorey’s.She shared how her parents, Aparna Sen and Mukul Sharma, gave her a choice as a child. “I was probably 4 or 5 when they asked me, ‘Do you want to be Konkona Sen or Konkona Sharma?’ I thought, why not have both? I felt like if I picked one, either of my parents would feel bad. And then I had to live with this long name for the rest of my life. My college career, my entire school career, they would mispronounce my name. It has been quite a journey.”

Konkona Sensharma grew up independent and self-reliant

The ‘Talvar’ actress also spoke about her independent upbringing. “I do use Sensharma as one word now, as it is easier and quicker. That is the thing about my parents and grandparents, they were very cool, they never infantilised me, and they treated me like a sovereign identity of my own.”

How Konkona Sensharma and Ranveer Shorey decided on son’s surname

While Konkona uses both her parents’ last names, her son Haroon’s surname is different. Explaining why she chose Shorey for him, she said, “We decided just to stick with Shorey. It didn’t make sense to me. If I do Sensharma, it isn’t my mom’s maiden name. And if they wanted to take on the last name of the spouse, the name wouldn’t end. Having done that to myself, I asked him if he could add a middle name if he wants later, but till then, let’s just keep Haroon Shorey.”

About Konkana Sensharma and Ranveer Shorey

Konkona was earlier married to Ranvir Shorey. The two tied the knot in 2010 but separated five years later. Their divorce was finalised in 2020. Despite their separation, they continue to co-parent Haroon.

Konkana Sensharma on the work front

Konkona was recently seen in the crime thriller ‘Search: The Naina Murder Case’, which released on October 10. Before that, she appeared in ‘Metro… In Dino’, a multi-starrer featuring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher. Go to Source
