Actor Dileep returned home to celebrations after being acquitted in a 2017 sexual assault case. The court cleared him and three others of all charges. While supporters rejoiced, the film industry remains divided, with some actresses questioning the verdict and reaffirming support for the survivor. Dileep expressed relief, stating truth has prevailed after an eight-year wait.

Malayalam actor Dileep headed straight to his Aluva residence on Monday, December 8, after being acquitted in the 2017 case involving the sexual assault of a Mollywood actress.The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court cleared Dileep and three others of all charges, after which the actor was welcomed home with warmth and celebration. In widely shared images on social media, Dileep is seen embracing his wife, Kavya Madhavan, and daughter, Mahalakshmi, in a long and emotional hug. The actor held his daughter close as Kavya greeted him with a wide smile, while other family members surrounded them. They were seen congratulating him and posing for photographs.

Grand celebrations from supporters following verdict

As the verdict was out, Dileep’s supporters were also seen distributing Laddoos in the court premise. Fans lit fireworks, distributed sweets, and waved posters, calling the verdict a moment of victory. Inside the house, relatives joined the family gathering.

Dileep’s first reaction after the verdict

After the verdict was passed, Dileep shared with the media, “Truth has won today. I have been waiting for this moment for eight years. I withstood everything because I was innocent. My family went through pain nobody should ever experience. I believed the truth would prevail, and today it has.”

Film industry sharply divided despite ruling

The court ruling has triggered visibly contrasting reactions across the Malayalam film industry. Actress Rima Kallingal revived the prominent campaign tagline “Avalkoppam”, signalling that the fight for justice remains active.Parvathy Thiruvothu took to social media, questioning the judgment with the sharp remark, “Justice what? And now we watch a carefully crafted screenplay unfold so cruelly now.” The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), which expelled Dileep in 2017, released a statement saying it respects the court’s verdict.Actress Remya Nambeesan also shared “Avalkoppam,” reaffirming her support for the survivor.
