Kehlani talks about her BPD diagnosis: ‘Being transparent helped me heal’

Kehlani talks about the clarity she gained after BPD diagnosis: ‘Being transparent helped me heal’

Famed singer Kehlani has been open about her struggles with mental health and how she has been navigating them. A while back, the singer revealed that she had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD), which had significantly affected her daily life. Now, in a recent interview, she opened up about her condition and the clarity she gained after receiving an official diagnosis.

Kehlani opens up about clarity after her diagnosis

Speaking to VIBE following her performance with Giveon at Coachella 2026, the 30-year-old reflected on her journey. She said, “When you finally have the tools, you have the diagnosis. But along with the diagnosis comes the work.” She shared that after being diagnosed, she was able to access the right medication and explore targeted therapies to better understand what works for her.“I also gained this tool belt of awareness. I’m starting to recognize my symptoms and triggers. I’m starting to learn what kind of life I have to lead as a person whose mind is different,” she added.

‘Being transparent helped me heal’

The singer also spoke about the importance of being open and transparent about her diagnosis with those around her. She explained that doing so allowed her to seek help when needed and emphasised how honesty plays a crucial role in the healing process. Sharing an example of how her loved ones support her, she said, “Hey, if you see these signs—I’m not sleeping, I’m not eating, I’m talking really fast. All of a sudden, I want to pick up 17 new hobbies, and I might dye my hair pink—maybe call me in and tell me I’m tripping. Call my psychiatrist. I’m in crisis.” Kehlani first shared her diagnosis publicly last year through a social media post.
