Malayalam action thriller ‘Kattalan’, starring Antony Varghese in the lead role, is set for release on this day.Directed by debutant Paul George, the film has already generated strong buzz among audiences due to its reported links with the world established in ‘Marco’ as some shots were teased in the trailer and also the actors in the Unni Mukundan starrer appears in Antony Varghese’s film.

Unni Mukundan denies involvement in universe

‘Marco’ actor Unni Mukundan issued a clarification regarding his connection to the project.The official statement read, “We would like to kindly clarify that Unni Mukundan is not a part of this project or any universe. We humbly request our fans and the public to refrain from questioning us further regarding any association with the concerned project.”

Ivory smuggling forms core of ‘Kattalan’ story

‘Kattalan’ is set in the violent world of ivory smuggling and illegal forest operations. The film follows a man who becomes trapped in a brutal conflict involving greed, survival, and dangerous criminal networks operating deep within the wilderness. The screenplay has been developed by Paul George along with Joby Varghese and Jero Jacob. Dialogues for the project have been written by Unni R.

‘Marco’ connection

One of the biggest highlights surrounding Kattalan is its reported connection to Marco. Though the makers have not officially labelled it as a direct sequel, the film is expected to continue certain unresolved emotional and narrative threads introduced earlier. According to details shared by the team, an important subplot from ‘Marco’ plays a major role in shaping Kattalan’s larger story. Towards the climax of Marco, audiences were introduced to a child later identified as Marco’s nephew. In the final moments of the film, the child gets kidnapped. ‘Kattalan’ reportedly explores the aftermath of that event.

Dushara Vijayan makes Malayalam debut

Apart from Antony Varghese Pepe, the film also stars Dushara Vijayan, who marks her Malayalam cinema debut with the project.Music and background score for the film have been composed by Ravi Basrur and B. Ajaneesh Loknath, both known for delivering powerful soundtracks for action-heavy films. The ensemble cast further includes Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Jagadish, Siddique and Anson Paul in important roles. Go to Source
