Karisma’s children get relief, court restrains Priya from dissipating Sunjay’s assets

Karisma Kapoor's children get interim relief in Rs 30,000 crore estate battle, court restrains Priya Kapur from dissipating Sunjay Kapur's assets

After the demise of Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sunjay Kapur, their children Samaira and Kiaan had filed a legal case against his widowed wife Priya Sachdev. They alleged that Priya has forged Sunjay’s will. His mother Rani Kapur is also fighting a legal case against Priya. As per the latest update, the Delhi High Court on Thursday granted interim relief to Karisma Kapoor’s children, restraining their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur from creating any third-party rights over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. For those not in the know, Priya Kapur, who married Sunjay after his divorce from Karisma, is his widow following his death in 2025.According to Bar and Bench, after hearing the matter, Justice Jyoti Singh observed that questions have been raised regarding the authenticity of the will allegedly left behind by Sunjay. She noted that both Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, have expressed doubts, placing the burden on Priya Kapur to address these concerns. Given that the validity of the will will be examined during trial proceedings, the Court stressed the need to safeguard the estate in the meantime. As her the court’s order, “Assets should not be dissipated. The assets need to be preserved,” the Court said, adding that a prima facie case had been made to justify interim protection. As part of its order, the Court barred Priya Kapur from alienating, transferring, pledging, or altering the shareholding structure of Sunjay’s Indian companies. Justice Singh further stated, “I have restrained her from withdrawing the provident fund amount, something thas consented to. I have also restrained from alienating personal effects, artwork, etc., which too was consented to.”The Court also limited withdrawals from certain bank accounts. “I have restrained from withdrawing money from three bank accounts of the two Indian banks, save and accept to the extent of discharging liabilities towards the children, under the degree of divorce between the deceased and the mother of the children,” Justice Singh added. Moreover, the operation of Sunjay Kapur’s foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings has been halted. However, the Court clarified that this restraint does not extend to any immovable assets held overseas. The dispute arises from allegations made by Karisma Kapoor’s children, who claim that Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife, forged the will in an attempt to secure complete control over his estate. Karisma and Sunjay were married from 2003 to 2016 and have two children together.Represented by their mother, the children approached the Court asserting that they were unfairly excluded from their father’s estate after his sudden passing in June 2025 in the United Kingdom. The legal proceedings name Priya Kapur, her minor son, Rani Kapur, and the executor of the will, Shradha Suri Marwah, as defendants. At the heart of the case is a will dated March 21, 2025, which allegedly bequeaths Sunjay Kapur’s entire personal estate to Priya Kapur. The children have further alleged that their stepmother, along with two associates, Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, deliberately withheld the will for over seven weeks, only presenting it during a family meeting on July 30, 2025.
