Vineeth Sreenivasan’s much-anticipated thriller ‘Karam’ has opened to a low response at the box office. The film, which marked Vineeth’s attempt at stepping into a darker, action-crime genre after Dhyan Sreenivasan’s ‘Thira’, managed to collect only Rs 37 lakhs worldwide on its first day.According to the Sacnilk website, the India net collection stood at Rs 33 lakhs, with the same number for Malayalam box office.

Box office struggles on day one

Despite high expectations, Karam could not draw audiences in large numbers on its opening day. The lack of strong WOM seems to be one of the key reasons behind the under performance of ‘Karam’.

In comparison, Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra’ continued its victorious run. The film raked in around Rs 70 lakhs on its 29th day and pushed its total to Rs 142 crores.

Mixed to negative audience reactions

On Twitter, reactions to ‘Karam’ have been mixed. One user wrote, “#Karam turns out to be a mediocre action-crime thriller from Vineeth Sreenivasan. Despite plenty of action sequences, the weak screenplay, missing thrill factor, and lack of emotional connect make it an Average watch.” Another added, “#Karam: is easily Vineeth’s weakest film yet. Despite some impressive technical work, the flat writing & lackluster performances drag it down. With anyone other than Noble, the lead might’ve had a spark.”A third viewer was equally critical: “After an underwhelming first half, the second half begins with promise but quickly sinks back to the same mediocre level. Weak performances and poor writing drag the film down, making this easily Vineeth’s weakest outing by miles.”Directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and written by Noble Babu Thomas, the film stars Noble Babu Thomas, Ivan Vukomanovic, Audrey Miriam Henest, Reshma Sebastian, Manoj K. Jayan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and Baburaj.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
