In a significant move to safeguard the enduring legacy of the late veteran actor, the Kapoor family has officially copyrighted Rishi Kapoor’s name and persona posthumously. This legal step aims to prevent the unauthorized use of his identity in commercial projects, digital recreations, and advertisements. By securing these personality rights, the family ensures that any future portrayal or use of the ‘Bobby’ star’s likeness remains under their strict supervision to maintain his professional dignity.

According to an India Today report, the Kapoor family secured permission to copyright Rishi Kapoor’s name. With that, they ensured that anyone trying to use the late actor’s name in a professional, commercial, or public capacity needs to get permission from the family. According to the report, “As per the copyright, anyone wanting to use the name Rishi Kapoor or mention it in any capacity would need prior permission from the family.” The Kapoor khandaan took this step to make sure that the actor’s name should not be misused. Notably, several celebrities have taken a legal route to protect their personality rights in recent times to prevent unauthorized use of their names or anything related to their identity.

One of the legendary figures of Hindi cinema, Rishi Kapoor was the son of the veteran actor Raj Kapoor. In his five-decade-long career, he featured in over 150 movies, which included ‘Bobby’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Kapoor & Sons’, ‘Mulk’, and many more. Rishi Kapoor is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, and their children ,Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor.The actor passed away at the age of 67 following a long battle with leukemia on April 30, 2020.Rishi Kapoor last featured in the film ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’. The actor couldn’t complete the shooting of the movie. However, the makers decided to keep the portions that were already shot, and the remaining movie was filmed with Paresh Rawal replacing him.
