‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, written, directed, and fronted by Rishab Shetty, has wrapped up its second weekend in theatres with remarkable momentum, continuing to dominate the box office despite its face-off with ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’. The film’s expansive release across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada territories has significantly amplified its nationwide reach.Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 Movie ReviewIn Karnataka, the film has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the highest-grossing movie ever in the state. The period folk action saga is showing no signs of slowing down, rapidly heading toward an unprecedented ₹200 crore gross in Karnataka alone.By the end of its second Wednesday (day 14), the prequel to ‘Kantara’ had amassed over ₹185 crore, overtaking the lifetime total of the 2022 blockbuster (₹183.60 crore) to claim the title of Karnataka’s biggest box office success, and that too in just two weeks. One key factor behind this record-breaking performance is the unusually high average ticket price of over ₹300. This became possible after the producers challenged the state’s price cap order in court. Following the Karnataka High Court’s stay on the government’s restriction that limited ticket prices to ₹200, the film’s revenue witnessed a significant jump. After raking in ₹337 crore during its opening week, the Rishab Shetty–Rukmini Vasanth–Gulshan Devaiah starrer added ₹22.25 crore on its second Friday. The weekend saw further growth with ₹39 crore on Saturday and ₹40 crore on Sunday. On its second Monday, the film collected ₹13.50 crore, followed by ₹14 crore on Tuesday (likely boosted by reduced ticket prices), and ₹10.55 crore on Wednesday — its lowest day yet. Early estimates for Thursday (day 15) suggest another ₹9 crore. This is the first time that the film has made a single digit number in the last 15 days. On day 16, the film has made Rs 1.14 crore till afternoon, taking its domestic total to an impressive ₹485.40 crore. The film is now on its way towards the ₹500 crore mark during its third weekend.Overseas, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has earned a little over $11 million. However, the Hindi version’s lukewarm performance has slightly tempered its global numbers. While ‘KGF 2’ had made a major splash with around $9 million from the Hindi market, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ is expected to wrap up with roughly $1 million from that segment.Meanwhile, ‘Thamma’ is releasing this Diwali. This will reduce the number of screens for ‘Kantara’, and further led to slowing it down. More so, if the word of mouth for this Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna starrer is good.
