Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ continues its box office journey, crossing Rs 610 crore despite a natural slowdown. The film’s cultural impact resonated with Kangana Ranaut, who praised its depiction of traditions and potential to curb tribal conversions. Shetty revealed the prequel’s extensive script development, involving 15-16 narration drafts to craft a complete backstory.

After showing a steady graph at the box office, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has naturally slowed down. The film has crossed Rs 610 crore.

Box office performance

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 0.74 crore on its fifth Monday after a steady weekend, collecting Rs 1.85 crore on Friday, Rs 3.6 crore on Saturday, and Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday. Its total Week 4 collection reached Rs 37.6 crore — a drop of just over 52 percent from the previous week but still a strong performance for its fourth week. The report also stated that it had an overall 10.37 percent Kannada, 11.07 percent Hindi, and 19.71 percent Tamil Occupancy on Monday, November 03, 2025.

Kangana’s reaction to fan post

Kangana recently responded to a social media post that compared the Dev culture of the Himalayas to the traditions shown in Rishab Shetty’s film. The user had shared a heartfelt post saying, “What Kantara has shown is reality. Until I saw this movie, I wasn’t aware of South India, but believe me, everyone born in the Himalayas has felt and seen things beyond imagination. The Dev culture here is truly divine, and this movie beautifully shows the vastness of Hinduism and the deep connection people have with their local deities. Kudos to you @shetty_rishab sir for bringing such a marvellous project.” The post caught Kangana’s attention, and she was quick to respond with admiration for the film. She wrote, “Very nice, such films can be crucial for stopping tribal conversion also.”

Rishab Shetty on the making of Kantara

Speaking with IANS earlier at a success party in Mumbai, Rishab Shetty recalled that for ‘Kantara: A Legend’ they only wrote 3-4 drafts and finished writing in 3-4 months. They then went straight to shoot. “It was very simple,” he stated. The makers approached the project with complete honesty rather than relying on market trends. He said that there was extensive planning involved in the prequel. “When we did the prequel, we started the discussion with the story of Shiva’s father. We finished that script, the bound script was ready. However, later we understood that the first part needs a backstory, so we thought, “Let’s go back a little, let’s keep it as a beginning, and let’s not keep it as a legend. The actor further explained that once they developed the full backstory, it became clear that the narrative could not be reduced into a small segment. “We finished it, then it became a full script. We then understood that we can’t say it in a small part; it’s a complete backstory,” he said. When asked about the number of drafts, he confirmed, “I think 15-16 narration drafts. Yes, it is almost 15-16 narrations.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
