Kantara Chapter 1 BO day 15: Film crosses Rs 485 cr in India

Kantara Chapter 1 box office day 15: Rishab Shetty film sees a dip, crosses Rs 485 cr in India

Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ is a box office hit, nearing ₹500 crore in India and already surpassing it globally. The film has become the year’s second-highest grosser, trailing only ‘Chhaava’. Actor Gulshan Devaiah shared his compelling reasons for taking on a negative role, drawn by the character’s flawed yet relatable nature.

After Kantara – A Legend, Rishab Shetty is once again winning hearts with his powerful performance in Kantara Chapter 1. The film opened to a huge response and continues to perform strongly at the box office. However, even after two weeks, it is yet to cross the Rs 500 crore mark in India.

Strong second weekend, but weekday dip

According to trade tracking site Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 had an impressive second weekend, earning Rs 78.75 crore in just two days. However, its collections dropped sharply on the second Monday, bringing in only Rs 13.35 crore. The film made Rs 10.5 crore on its second Wednesday and dipped further to Rs 9 crore on Thursday. With this, the total domestic collection stands at Rs 485.40 crore. The film is now inching closer to the Rs 500 crore mark in India and has already crossed that milestone worldwide.

Second-highest grosser of the year

The film has surpassed big releases like Saiyaara, Coolie, War 2, and Lokah Chapter 1 to become the second-highest-grossing movie of the year. However, it still trails behind Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava, which also starred Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. Chhaava turned into a blockbuster upon release, earning Rs 601.54 crore in India and Rs 807.91 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of the year so far.

Gulshan Devaiah on negative role

In an interview with Moneycontrol, Gulshan Devaiah revealed why he said yes to negative role in the film. He said, “Never say never. I want to do things where I can really have a genuine conviction… From the first film. Because I’m a fan. I saw the first film. It blew me away… it’s almost like you are getting possessed.”Elaborating further, he added, “So never say never to negative parts unless that’s a part that compels me to say that no, you have to do this. But I want to have a genuine point of interest also in exploring that part and being a part of that story. It’s usually the character. First, it’s the character and then how that character is in the story. And it has to be genuine from me. Because I’m a fan. I saw the first film. It blew me away. And it’s one of the best climaxes I might have ever experienced. Not seen. Experienced. Because when that… When his framing and Rishabh’s performance and Ajinish’s music kicks in, it’s almost like you are getting possessed.”Spilling some beans about his character in the film, the actor shared, “He is a person of weak character. He seems stronger, he thinks he is stronger, he is entitled. He is not worthy of this role. He is good for nothing. He is just entitled rubbish… And he has grown up like that in luxury, you know, he can do whatever.””So, but these sort of characters, you know, when you take a trunk, you know, impetuous and jealous and good for nothing piece of shit, and you give them power, they will destroy everything.” My character doesn’t exist in history. It’s based on a historical period, but all the characters are fiction. So, but these sort of characters, you know, when you take a trunk, you know, impetuous and jealous and good for nothing piece of shit, and you give them power, they will destroy everything. And that’s what he does also. So for me, that was a thing that really attracted me because this thing is applicable everywhere,” he concluded.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
