Kantara 2 adds over Rs 22 crore in 25 days post its OTT release

Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ adds over Rs 22 crore in 25 days post its OTT release

The cinematic marvel ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ featuring Rishab Shetty continues to shatter expectations at the box office, generating another Rs 22.54 crore since its OTT launch. Now boasting a total of Rs 621.84 crore, this film defies the common trend of declining theatrical viewership post-streaming, thanks to its widespread resonance, particularly in the Hindi belt.

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has achieved yet another astonishing milestone at the box office. The continued to show its dominance even after the film was released on OTT on the 29th day of its release. Since it dropped on OTT the film has added Rs 22.54 crore to its total tally in the last 25 days taking the total collection of the film to Rs 621.84 crore. This includes Rs 6.74 crore (Kannada), Rs 13.31 crore (Hindi), Rs 1.64 crore (Tamil) from Day 29 to Day 54 ,Rs 49 lakh (Telugu) from Day 29 to Day 39 , and Rs 36 lakh (Malayalam) from day 29 to Day 46 ,a remarkable feat that underlines the film’s sustained cultural impact and repeat audience value. What makes this even more extraordinary is that OTT releases typically mark the decline of a film’s theatrical run. But for Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, the opposite happened. The film experienced renewed buzz, fresh discussions, and an unexpected second wave of theatrical footfalls. Audiences across the country returned to cinemas, driven by a desire to experience its mystical visuals and divine atmosphere on the big screen. By the end of its 54-day theatrical journey, the film’s total box office collection has soared to Rs 621.84 crore, firmly establishing it as the biggest hit of the year and the seventh highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film is also heading towards Rs 200 crore mark in Kannada cinema. The backbone of this incredible post-OTT performance has been the Hindi belt. The Hindi version alone contributed Rs 13.31 crore in the 25-day post-OTT window, showcasing the film’s pan-India strength. The film on OTT has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam versions but in post-covid era most people are used to watching films in its original languages . The film’s longevity is rooted in its unique storytelling, Rishab Shetty’s powerful screen presence, the mythological intensity of its world-building, and its breathtaking music, sound design and action sequences. The film had the potential of beating Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone , Nayanthara and Atlee’s Jawan for the 6th biggst hit of Indian cinema had it not released on OTT.
