Kangana on Dharmendra: ‘He came from small village, like me’

At a heartfelt prayer gathering arranged by Hema Malini, Kangana Ranaut honored the memory of the beloved Dharmendra. With genuine warmth, she reflected on his humble spirit, reminiscing about her own village upbringing. Kangana fondly shared how Dharmendra, along with his sons Sunny and Bobby, consistently uplifted her throughout her career, serving as a source of unwavering support and encouragement.

Kangana Ranaut attended the prayer meet organized by Hema Malini for her late husband and legendary actor Dharmendra on December 11, 2025. At the ceremony the actress paid an emotional tribute to the late icon. She said that the He-Man of the Hindi cinema inspired countless artists. Let’s take a look at what she said.

At the prayer meet ceremony in Delhi, while talking to ANI, Kangana Ranaut shared that Dharmendra’s journey made her recall her own roots. She expressed that the cinema legend’s presence carried the “fragrance of the village and the soil.”

She added, “Dharam ji came from a small village, just like me, and tasted the peak of success. Seeing him always reminded me of the fragrance of the village, of the soil there. He was so grounded and a really simple person… It is an hour of grief.”Kangana Ranaut also talked about how she always received support from Dharmendra as well as his sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. She said, “Be it Dharam ji, Sunny ji, or Bobby ji, they have always encouraged me… He always appreciated my work.”Kangana further shared about how Dharmendra used to shower praise on her work. She said, “Mujhe bahut yaadein hai ki vo kehte the Kangana bahut acha kaam kar rahi ho… Tum bahut acha fight karti ho apni baaton ko lekar… apne hak ke liye (I have many memories of him, ‘Kangana, you are doing very good work… you fight very well for your beliefs and for your rights).”

Dharmendra left for his heavenly abode on November 24 at the age of 89. His memorable movies include ‘Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’, ‘Sholay,’ ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, and ‘Anupama’, among others.His last film, ‘Ikkis’, directed by Sriram Raghavan is set to be released on December 25.
