Story set in 1950s Madras

‘Kaantha’ unfolds in 1950s Madras. The period thriller captures the golden era of filmmaking and the politics behind the screen. The drama revolves around Ayya who is a respected filmmaker played by Samuthirakani, and T. K. Mahadevan who is a rising star portrayed by Dulquer Salmaan. Ayya shapes Mahadevan’s rise to fame with pride, but cracks emerge when the actor begins influencing the creative direction of their films. The film pushes it’s narrative with such a conflict as it’s base. The cast also features Ravindra Vijay, Gayathrie, Nizhalgal Ravi and Bagavathi Perumal.ETimes gave the movie a rating of 4 stars out of 5 with the same user rating. An excerpt from our review reads, “The film knows it’s trafficking in archetypes and classical mechanics, and instead of trying to subvert them, it just plays them straight with enough craft to make the old moves land. Sometimes commitment beats cleverness.”Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan’s next film is the Malayalam action thriller ‘I’m Game’ which is directed by Nahas Hidhayath.
