Taika Waititi is back again with another quirky feature, this time adapting the story from Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, ‘Klara and the Sun.’ The film’s first trailer has already been released, and fans have already started raving about the dystopian film starring Jenna Ortega as an ‘artificial friend.’
‘Klara and the Sun’ trailer out now
The first trailer for ‘Klara and the Sun’ is out now and shows Jenna Ortega, best known for her work with Tim Burton in ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Wednesday’, as an Artificial Friend. With the single goal of finding a perfect home and possessing the mind of a toddler, Klara meets Josie, which starts a wild tale. The trailer gives a glimpse of a dystopian future where people can purchase robots as ‘friends.’ However, Klara’s specific model, along with many others like her, has been deemed old and outdated. Meanwhile, the shopkeeper, played by Natasha Lyonne, remains optimistic that they will soon find someone to buy them and take them home. When Klara asks the store manager how to know if she has found her family, Lyonne’s character tells her, “Just remember everything you learned, and hopefully they’ll come to love you like a member of the family or family dog.”When Josie encounters Klara, she is hell-bent on buying her, even though her mother is not looking forward to it. Klara comes home with Josie and acts like a child, as artificial friends are made with the intelligence of a toddler, as shared in the trailer. While Waititi directed the film, he also co-wrote the script with Dahvi Waller. You can watch the trailer here:

Many people reacted to the trailer as soon as it was released online. Many raved about the refreshing role Ortega seems to take, as opposed to her darker, more horror-centric roles. Powerful, inspiring and heartfelt.”Another social media user shared, “ngl the book wrecked me, and now I’m gonna have to emotionally prepare all over again. Crying hunched over in a theatre seat is gonna require a Vortalex posture corrector”, while another person added, “This man’s books are modern-day masterpieces that lend themselves well to film.”The comment section under the trailer was filled with praise. Another person commented, “Klara and the Sun is my favourite book of all time, so I have A LOT of unreasonable expectations for this movie. I am putting all my faith into Taika Waititi to pull this off.”On the other hand, some were not all that impressed with the trailer. One person critically examined the video and posted, “This movie feels like it got the entire mood of the book wrong. While it looks entertaining, it also seems to have taken a new take on a quiet, contemplative and thoughtful book. This is whimsical, but it is missing what the original book offers.”
