Javed Akhtar hails Taapsee Pannu starrer Assi’: 'A film that touches both heart and mind'

Javed Akhtar praises Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Assi’ as rare film touching heart & mind. Steady Rs 5.6cr box office after day 5 (Rs 70L). Anubhav Sinha’s 3rd collab tackles women’s assault. Stellar cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Revathi. Deeply emotional yet thought-provoking.

Taapsee Pannu has won hearts again with her strong acting in ‘Assi’. The film is doing well at the box office. Just lately, Javed Akhtar, a top lyricist and writer, praised it big time. Akhtar called it a rare movie that ‘touches your heart and mind.’

Javed Akhtar praises ‘Assi’

While talking to India Today, Javed Akhtar stated, “Some pictures touch your heart. And some films operate on an intellectual level, they engage your mind. But very few films manage to touch both your heart and your mind at the same time. I believe Assi is one such film. On one level, it is a deeply emotional story that will resonate with ordinary people. But on another level, it leaves behind some very serious questions. It does not hand out easy answers. Instead, it places those questions before society.” Akhtar further stated that anyone who thinks deeply, who pays attention to what is happening around, will walk away from this film reflecting on it. It has been narrated in a very graceful and compelling manner. And ultimately, the film leaves someone with both answers and questions.

‘Assi’ box office performance

Pannu’s latest release, ‘Assi’, wrapped up its fifth day at the box office with consistent performance, surpassing the Rs 5 crore milestone. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the movie earns acclaim for tackling the pressing issue of increasing sexual violence against women. Sacnilk’s latest figures show ‘Assi’ raking in Rs 70 lakhs on day 5, matching day 4, with no weekday uptick. It kicked off with Rs 1 crore on opening day, then surged over the weekend to Rs 1.6 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. The cumulative total now hits Rs 5.6 crore.

More about ‘Assi’

‘Assi’ represents the third team-up between Taapsee and Anubhav Sinha, after ‘Mulk’ (2018) and ‘Thappad’ (2020).
