Janhvi shares statement calling out misinterpretation of her comments on alcohol addiction

Janhvi Kapoor shares statement calling out misinterpretation of her comments on alcohol addiction awareness: ‘She’s a caregiver, not someone with personal experience'

Janhvi Kapoor has been in the news for her recent initiative which is focused on alcohol addiction awareness. The ‘Dhadak’ actress recently appeared on a podcast and spoke about the issue. However, the actress has now shared a clarification, saying that some of her recent statements were misinterpreted. The clarification referred to statements she made during a conversation on Raj Shamani’s podcast, where she spoke about a phase in her life when she was drinking more frequently following a deeply traumatic experience. The official statement, later shared by Janhvi on her Instagram Story, emphasised the context behind her words. It read, “We at Off The Rocks & Amaha have noticed certain media pages misrepresenting content associated with this initiative and Janhvi Kapoor. This is deeply concerning.”The note further clarified her role, stating, “We want to be clear, Janhvi Kapoor is part of this conversation as a caregiver and ally, not as someone who has had any personal experience of addiction or alcohol dependence. Such misrepresentation not only diminishes her role, but also undermines and disrespects the real, lived experiences of those battling addiction and those supporting them. Let’s not trivialise efforts to lend a healing hand to a critical problem by misleading information for the sake of clickbait.”The statement also urged media platforms and individuals to approach the subject responsibly, highlighting the need for sensitivity when discussing addiction. It added that spreading misinformation in this space is harmful and disrespectful to those directly affected, while also thanking supporters for standing by the initiative.During her podcast appearance, Janhvi had said, “I would not say I was addicted or I was abusing alcohol, but I was drinking frequently. And this was after a very traumatic experience in my life. I felt the need to just, like, ‘I need to get drunk’.” She also reflected on how her perspective changed over time, explaining that she became more conscious of its effects on her body and how she felt afterward. She further shared that hangovers made her uncomfortable and that noticing a particular smell on herself reminded her of someone close who had struggled with addiction—an experience that made her realise it wasn’t a path she wanted to continue on.On the professional front, Janhvi will next be seen in Peddi alongside Ram Charan. The film is slated for release on June 6, 2026. She was last seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, co-starring Varun Dhawan, which hit theatres in October last year.
