Jacob Elordi to Tom Francis: Top contenders to play James Bond

Who will Be the Next James Bond? Jacob Elordi to Tom Francis, here are the top contenders to play 007

The way Sir Sean Connery introduced himself as “Bond… James Bond” in ‘Dr No’ remains etched in our memory. Cut to Daniel Craig, whose charm, wit and confidence as Bond left audiences in awe, especially in No Time to Die, which marked his fifth and final outing as 007. Every actor who has played the iconic spy has forged a distinctive connect with the audience. Thus, who will be the next James Bond? That’s the question dominating the internet ever since rumours surfaced that Jacob Elordi is among the top contenders to step into the role. Now, with Amazon taking over creative control from Barbara Broccoli, Michael G Wilson, and Denis Villeneuve coming on board as director, excitement around the future of the franchise has only grown stronger. Naturally, speculation around the next Bond has gone into overdrive. With Jacob Elordi being considered as one of the top runners, the internet seems divided. While some think he could be perfect for the part with his charismatic look and young age, many believe he would be a misfit. For starters, Jacob is Australian, while one of the long-standing expectations for Bond is that the actor should convincingly carry a British accent. If the rumours are true, it will be interesting to see whether Jacob can pull that off.Reports suggest the makers are looking for a British male in his late 20s or early 30s, as they want a younger Bond this time around. Apart from age, the actor also needs the personality, physique, charm and screen presence to make the role his own. In an interview with The Independent, Barbara Broccoli, daughter of Albert Broccoli, had previously spoken about the casting process. She said, “It will be a man. He’ll likely be in his 30s. Whiteness is not a given. And whoever says yes is doing so with the expectation of at least a decade’s worth of films.”Going by that criteria, Jacob does seem to fit the bill. At 28, he could become one of the youngest actors to play Bond if the casting rumours turn out to be true.

Henry Cavill for James Bond?

Another name that constantly comes up in fan discussions is Henry Cavill. Considering Bond is also someone who has an unmatched aura brimming with confidence, Henry would be aptly suited for the part. He certainly has the persona, physicality and charisma to pull off Bond, especially after playing Superman. However, Henry is now 43, which likely puts him outside the age bracket the makers seem to be aiming for as they are looking for an actor who can provide commitment for the next few years as Bond. A more fitting option, age-wise, could be Callum Turner. He’s British, in his 30s, and has the understated charm that could work well for a reinvented Bond. Since the makers reportedly want to refresh the character while keeping the essence intact, Turner could bring a different energy to the role, distinct from Daniel Craig’s version.

Richard Madden may fit the bill

An offbeat but interesting choice could be Richard Madden. He has already played a spy in Citadel and showcased his range through projects like Game of Thrones and Bodyguard. Though he turns 39 this year, he still falls close enough to the preferred age range and has the intensity required for Bond.Another actor who could fit the mould is Harry Richardson. Bond requires someone with natural charisma, sophistication and grit, and Richardson does have that appeal. Like Jacob, however, he is Australian. But if the makers are open to considering Jacob, perhaps Harry could also be in the mix.Fans have also been throwing around names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Andrew Garfield as possible contenders for the role.Tom Francis auditions for new James Bond roleVariety recently reported that famed actor Tom Francis has officially auditioned for the role of the next James Bond, which is currently under development under the banner of one of the most popular studios. Francis is the latest addition to the list of actors who have a high probability of ending up as the next James Bond.

Actors who may have missed the boat

While Henry Cavill remains a fan favourite, the franchise’s push towards a younger Bond likely works against him. Similarly, Idris Elba is another name fans have long championed for the role, but at 53, the possibility of him taking over as 007 now seems unlikely. While the makers are yet to make an official announcement and the casting remains under wraps, fans clearly can’t hold their horses, with speculations continuing to flood the internet. But let’s just say, the more the suggestions, the merrier. Let the internet keep brainstorming ideas about who could be the perfect next James Bond until the cat is finally out of the bag. Till then, let’s wait and watch. Go to Source
