Jackky Bhagnani says he's in a situationship with Rakul Preet Singh: 'We are exclusive but we can talk about anything'

Actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani and Rakul Preet Singh found love during the lockdown and eventually got married in Goa in 2024. In a recent interaction, the couple opened up about their bond, with Jackky describing their marriage in an unconventional way, calling it a situationship, despite their commitment to each other. The duo reflected on how they arrived at the decision to marry. Jackky explained that both of them entered the relationship with emotional clarity and independence. “We told each other that we are not 20-21 years old anymore. We have both seen many ups and downs. Individually, I am a happy person. I am not looking for anyone to fill that void because if I am a depressed person, no matter who comes into my life, I will be depressed. And individually, you are happy too. Together, we are happier,” Jackky said in an interview with YouTube channel Zingabad. Rakul echoed the sentiment, emphasising that their relationship isn’t about dependency. “We are not filling a void in each other’s lives. It’s not like you didn’t take me for a holiday, so I am unhappy. I can go on that holiday by myself. I think there are more important things in life to talk about.” When the conversation shifted to modern relationship dynamics and the growing trend of situationships, Jackky shared his perspective on why many prefer them today. He believes it stems from a desire to avoid expectations and restrictions. He then related that idea back to their own marriage. “Rakul and I are married, but we are like in a situationship, which is, of course, we are exclusive to each other because that’s why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything,” he said.Explaining what that openness looks like in practice, Jackky added that there is complete transparency between them. “The ex-girlfriend might feel awkward about it. Rakul knows everything about me. So if she knows everything, then I don’t need to hide anything,” he said, referring to taking calls even in her presence. Rakul summed up their dynamic simply: “We are best friends.”Jackky further noted that this honesty allows him to feel unrestricted in the relationship. He shared that if he wants to spend time with friends, Rakul encourages it rather than questioning it.Rakul also addressed traditional expectations within marriage, pointing out how women have often been expected to adjust around their partners. She made it clear that their relationship operates differently. “In a lot of marriages, what’s happening is that men want something and the women have surrendered, and that’s how it has been happening for years. Women make plans according to their husbands’ schedules. We are equals in every sense,” she said. She added that while some couples feel constrained after marriage, that hasn’t been their experience. “We look forward to spending time with each other.” Jackky concluded by challenging the popular idea that opposites attract, saying that such dynamics may not sustain in the long run. “In the long run, it will fail because if your thought process, ethics, likes and dislikes don’t match, that’s where differences start. Because then I start keeping information from you as a partner and vice versa,” he said.
