Is YouTuber Spill Sesh’s house burglary a hate crime?

Burglary of YouTuber Spill Sesh’s house is a hate crime? Here’s what the police think and where the investigation stands

On February 14, 2026, someone broke into the home of Kristi Cook, who is better known online as Spill Sesh, and as per the police investigation, it’s not any random run-of-the-mill burglary. Reportedly, the LAPD is now treating this as a possible hate crime, and social media has been buzzing about it ever since.

What happened?

Police shared that the break-in went down in the San Fernando Valley, according to People. The burglars forced open a wooden back door, tore through the place, and took off with several items. When investigators got there, they found a Buddha statue from inside the house smashed in the driveway. The LAPD thinks its destruction could mean this wasn’t just about stealing stuff, but could be about targeting Cook’s beliefs or identity.Right now, nobody knows for sure if the statue was deliberately smashed or just dropped in the chaos. The police haven’t said how much was stolen or destroyed, either. Cook wasn’t home at the time, and so far, nobody’s been arrested. The investigation’s still wide open, with police following up on whatever leads they can find.

Why is it a possible hate crime?

Police believe that the main intrigue here is the damaged Buddha statue. For the unversed, hate crimes aren’t just regular crimes; they’re motivated by certain biases, whether that’s religion, race, or something else protected. Now, the LAPD is trying to figure out if someone targeted Cook’s home and her beliefs on purpose, or if the statue just ended up broken in the mess. Right now, there aren’t any suspects or clear motives, and “possible” is the keyword, and they’re not ruling anything out.Who is Spill Sesh?Spill Sesh, aka Kristi Cook, runs one of YouTube’s most popular commentary channels, ‘Spill Sesh’, with over 800,000 subscribers. She posts daily (or almost daily) videos about celebrity drama and internet controversies. Initially, Kristi Cook kept her real identity secret and kept posting as Spill Sesh. However, in 2023, she revealed her face and name during a video with Manny MUA. That move made her even more well-known in the YouTube world. She’s talked about how being recognized can be awkward sometimes, but she’s also said it made her work feel more meaningful and real. Go to Source
