Is Rekha set to make her comeback on screen?

Is Rekha set to make her comeback on screen? Vijay Varma and Manish Malhotra spill the beans: 'She told me I should recommend her name'

Rekha is considering iconic in every way – be it her choice of movies or her appearances off screen. While the legendary actress is often spotted at various events and seen cheering for her friends and their movies at all times. But her fans have been desperately waiting for her comeback on screen. Rekha’s long time friend, designer Manish Malhotra has now revealed that he had thought of having her in a cameo in his production ‘Gustaakh Ishq’ starring Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Sheikh. The film also has Naseeruddin Shah. Manish and Rekha share a bonding that has been for years. They’re quite close to each other but the film’s team felt that the role was too small for Rekha. When asked about the possibility of Rekha’s comeback on screen, during a chat with News18 Showsha, Vijay said, “In fact, for one of the roles in Gustaakh Ishq, Manish wanted to call Rekha ji. Then Vibhu (Puri, director) told him that it’s too small a role for her.” Vibhu Puri added to what Vijay said, “It’s a small but important and consequential role. The character leads Vijay’s character to Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) saab’s character. MM kept insisting that we approach Rekha ji for that part. But then we thought that aadhe din ke kaam ke liye, we wouldn’t want to call her. She deserves a bigger role. Both MM and Rekha ji are very fond of each other.” While the veteran isn’t a part of ‘Gustakh Ishq’, Manish reveals his wish to cast her in a film made by him. The designer turned producer said, “I would love for Rekha ji to work in a film produced by me. When the right script comes, she would love to do a role in it. It has to be a part that challenges her. She has done so much already. She has a huge bandwidth of work. If I get a script that I think I should take to her, I’ll do it. The search for that script is on. She shouldn’t feel, ‘What have you got me? You know me!” Reacting to Manish, Vijay revealed that Rekha expressed to him that she wants to work. ““She told me once, ‘Hum log saath mein kab kaam karenge, Vijay?’ She asked me about the films I’m doing and told me that I should recommend her name to my directors,” said the ‘Darlings’ actor.
