Indian fans say ‘Ramayana’ looks better than ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer faces VFX criticism; Indian fans say 'Ramayana' looks better

The Russo Brothers on Monday, surprised all Marvel fans when they dropped the first trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, sparking a frenzy on and off social media. While the preview has racked up millions of views and the trailer helped sell out all premium format tickets, a section of viewers have criticised the film’s visual effects for its alleged “unfinished” and “unpolished” CGI.

Fans point to ‘unfinished’ CGI

Soon after the trailer dropped, social media platforms were flooded with reactions dissecting the film’s visual effects. One fan wrote, “The VFX and visual quality of #AvengersDoomsday feels a bit odd and quite unpolished. Some closeup shots seem to be a bad green screen cutout with no work on refining the edges and the lighting!”Another viewer echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I still felt like the VFX in some shots of Avengers Doomsday feels incomplete, definitely some work is needed for the upgrade. We still got time for it before the film releases in December. Other than that I am so looking forward to it.”Another reaction read, “Avengers Doomsday Trailer 1st impression: OKAYISH. Maybe due to prior leaks. But I must say VFX & CGI not up to the mark. In the time of AI, Seedance 2.0 produces better videos. Let’s see, maybe they will fix it till the movie hits theatres.”Still another said, “Very mid trailer. It ain’t giving Avengers vibes. VFX looks terrible. What is happening to CGI?” while another added, “Doomsday visuals doesn’t justify the budget”

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ visuals will improve

Not everyone was concerned about the CGI, with several fans pointing out that visual effects in blockbuster films often continue to be refined until shortly before release. One user wrote, “Avengers: Doomsday trailer just dropped and yes, the VFX on that Thor/Doom clash need work, but the scale of this cast reunion—X-Men meeting the Avengers properly for the first time—makes it hard to care about a few unfinished shots. December 18 can’t come fast enough.”Many noted that Marvel trailers have historically featured incomplete visual effects that are polished before a film’s theatrical release.

Indian fans compare it to Ramayana

The debate was particularly prominent among Indian moviegoers, many of whom compared the trailer to the recently unveiled ‘Ramayana’ preview, praising the Nitesh Tiwari directorial and Namit Malhotra production for its visuals and VFX.Fans took to social media to draw comparisons between the Hollywood and Indian visual effects, particularly following the overwhelmingly positive response to ‘Ramayana’ trailer.Several Indian users argued that ‘Ramayana’ looked more visually impressive despite its footage being seen only the first glimpse trailer and the leaked promotional clips before its upcoming release on July 24. “That 1 minute leak trailer of Ramayana looks more exciting & rich than #Doomsday trailer,” one fan posted. Another wrote, “I don’t think that Ramayana VFX will be worse than this recent Doomsday trailer… If you know, you know… It’s bad as hell and they tried to hide it with multiple elements. I am comparing trailer to trailer right now.” Others went further, with posts reading, “People are not lying when they are saying Ramayana Trailer >> Doomsday Trailer,” and, “Unpopular opinion: 144p #Ramayana leak > 4K #Doomsday trailer.” Another said, “I have seen Indians criticising our own movie and loving The Odyssey and Avengers and what not, while they had so many flaws too. But not a single word of criticism. Criticising something is fine, but you should show the same attitude for a Hollywood movie as well. Doomsday visuals don’t justify the budget.”Still another post read, “People don’t even understand what a film is selling. Ramayana itself promised benchmark VFX and made its visuals the USP. When you set those expectations, audiences will judge you accordingly. And let’s be real, no one’s saying Doomsday’s CGI is out of this world.”

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ tickets Sold Out

Despite the criticism surrounding the trailer’s visual effects, excitement for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ remains high. Advance bookings for the film’s premium early screenings sold out rapidly after tickets went on sale on Monday. Tickets for the next big ‘Avengers’ film went on sale, five months before its December 18 release. Various box office trackers reported that the film has already topped presales for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ in some spots and beaten the pre-release ticket sales of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in under two hours.Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ features an ensemble cast of Hollywood icons including obert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, with Tenoch Huerta Mejia. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on December 18, where it will clash with ‘Dune: Part Three’.Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, is slated for release on Diwali 2026.
